Suffolk hauliers

I Worked for Carters haulage when they opened a depot in southampton circa 1994, I stayed with them for five years then moved to Deben transport in 2000, I was with Carters till 2005. Here’s my trucks over that period…

Moved to a Scania in 1995

In 1997 into a brandnew Renault premium, this is its first trip to telford

Same truck about a year on…

Late 1999 I was given a MAN tga 460 it had a low roof not an XXL, I hated it no room at all. Shortly after that i moved to Deben Transport. My first truck there was a Iveco eurotec (sadly no Photos). After that i moved into another Renault premium…

From that I moved into a DAF 95, I lost those pics on a computer failure, but here is one of codford clampets

In 2004 my last truck with Deben was a new MAN

I,m now working for DHL on beer tankers out of coors brewery alton…sorry this is not a suffolk truck…

euromat:
that a and h man, im guessing that was at the routemaster building the picture was taken?

Having scrutinised the pic Matt,I reckon it was taken outside the IMM building, that’s where A&H had their office (next to Nippress I think) and in the background to the left would be Teamhauls yard, and the two crane towers sticking up would be Walton Container Terminal.

God,I’m turning into an anorak! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

As a matter of interest,Tony Searles trucks were lime green because when he first started out as a shunter with his own motor,he had a day cab DAF which was ex-John Lewis.

Another useless bit of trivia I know, but I’m bored!

SOME OF THE TRUCKS MY DAD DROVE WITH HIS MANY YEARS WITH
TAYLOR BARNARD

I read that tony searles first truck was ex russell davis iveco which he started up in 1994 with ,its in the 111 squadron book!

Tony Searle started long before 1994,and he definately had an ex-John Lewis DAF.
I know the man.

He came round for a brew the other day. I got onto TNUK and tbh I think he was struggling a bit to contain himself in tight jeans.

Les zizis des routiers sont sympas

Suddenly came to mind the other day (It’s an age thing),does anyone remember Brian Palmer’s brother Eric?

Eric used to sub for P&O Roadways in Felixstowe and ran an F12 Globetrotter in a rather striking metallic colour.I spoke to him one day in P&O’s canteen and the colour was a Ford car colour,IIRC he had a Mk II Granada that was the same.
What became of Eric?

KW:
Ash,you are a star and have come up trumps yet again!

Are you sure that the Nippress F12 is Farmer’s? Nippress ran a couple of their own motors back in the early 80’s,one being an F12 (though it may have been a four wheeler) and an F7.

A&H Haulage, remember them very well, they used to do a lot of Johnson Stevens work the same as Trans UK.

Freelance were I think down Fagbury Road.

Teamhaul were based just off the Dooley roundabout. They had a sickeningly lime green colour scheme.

Harold Morton is indeed Ralph’s brother. The last I saw of him he was running his own motor in K-Line colours.

Je&A Goodwin were based just off the A45 (now A14) near Bury St.Edmunds.Always had second hand motors.

And that OOCL Scania,if that’s HBJ 807 V,then it’s one of two that Goodway’s took over from,I think,B&R,and was the first truck I had when I started at Goodway’s.

The Interport 111 next to it was one of two that were run from Langer Road Service Station in Felixstowe.

And a P&O Roadways 111 in USL colours. When the US bases were still going at Mildenhall,Lakenheath etc. there was an awful lot of boxes shipped with supplies and comforts from America.

More please…

Most certainly is Malcolm Farmer (pictured is the Truck I piloted for a little over two years in the mid '80s) - BTW, Wasn’t Malcolm T Farmer, although the logo looked that way! Actually stood for Malcolm Farmer Transport based at the Silver Ball Cafe out on the A10 between Royston and Buntingford (Buckden). He supplied traction only to Nippress and did European for AMG at North Weald. Shared a yard with Barry Watts who operated left ■■■■■■ Scania 111’s

Hi all!

Just found this thread and just wondering if anyone has any photos of a Suffolk/Norfolk haulier by the name of Roger E Mills & Sons of Lowestoft, Suffolk, who were a cattle importer/exporter. They ran a small mixed fleet of Volvo’s from the F86 through to the F89 and had a yard/lairage on Lowestoft Docks. My late father drove for Roger Mills and he was the first driver of the F89 from new. Thanks in advance, regards, CF85DAF
