Hello Bill, another you were trying to think of would be Jack Tubby of Whaplode Rd. Lowestoft. He ran a mixed fleet including AECs, Bedfords, and Scammell Highwaymans ( or should that be Highwaymen ) and the fleet was painted dark green. Best regards, Haddy.

My old chap sometimes drove that Scammell on a night job, after he’d done a days work picking up the milk churns.
Unispeed took over Kidners then moved into Humbers old yard At Lowestoft. Dad worked there until Unispeed finished & BRS took over the Birds Eye job.

What’s your dads name mate?

Dads name is Mick “Danny” Bierton.
If my attempt to upload a photo is successful, heres a picture of me with him, we both look slightly older now !!!

I can remember your dad talking about that old Scammell, and when he took it on nights he would tape a torch to the gear-stick facing downwards so as to see which gate the gear stick was in. I can also remember biking up the Beccles Rd.in the slipstream of the same motor when I was a kid, there was a slight hill ( locally known as Lillypits ) just Beccles side of the railway bridge at Gorleston. The driver would be returning home to Brampton after loading malt from Yarmouth and the old motor was a bit on the slow side until the road levelled out just before the National garage ( now Tescos ) but I was nearly home then. With the modern trucks of today you hardly notice a hill there at all.
I have always lived beside the A143 at Bradwell and as a kid I loved to watch lorries go past, among them Gazes of Aldeby,Leggets of Beccles and of course Kidners of Brampton. I wish I’d had a camera then. Regards Haddy.

What Leggetts of Beccles lorries looked like when I worked there
B897SPW was the first lorry I drove with a night heater, I thought I was in heaven.

Have you any older pics of Leggets ie Albions, ERFs, Leylands etc. or do you know anyone who could have ? Also Kidners, they were both very smart fleets, always clean and tidy. Regards, Haddy.

What about brain haulage and teamhaul

Great pictures Norfolktrucker, I’d forgotten all about Frans Haulage ( was it Frank Tipple ) I used to know an ex Unispeed driver on there, his name was Graham, someone said he emigrated. Is that Micky Beck in Spennys ERF? Anyway keep 'em coming. Regards Haddy.

Frans Haulage was run by the late Francis Tipple, he was a real stickler for clean motors. He would stand behind you while you washed down your lorry & point out any bits you missed. Then when you went home he’d spend the weekend polishing the fleet (there was only 6 of them though) . When I started working there I inherited the little AWD from Graham Howlett who got a new Scania. I keep in touch with Graham, he has lived in Australia for 18 years now, he’s still driving for a living but after a spell on the road trains is now driving an Isuzu 6 wheel rigid fridge box on local work.

The driver of Spennys motor is John (Titch) Clarke, who is now driving for Bomfords.

Hello Norfolktrucker, here’s a few from my collection. Regards Haddy.

Still speak to Simon Nolloth now & again. Glenn ran to Gib a couple of times as a subby, not direct with Trident. Rachel is now at Transam. She was a real head case, had her share of scrapes but didn’t write anything off.
