They’ve implemented new rota’s nationwide recently, & we (Scottish depots) are now suffering from an excess of drivers. Not sure if that’s the scenario elsewhere, but not convinced more newbies would be needed now.
They’re about to start approx 50 newbies at Burtonwood (from the horse’s mouth) … just hope the job is as good as people say on here otherwise I would have given up waiting long ago.

Wow…50? That’s a helluva lot in one go!
The jobs ok, suppose it’ll depend on what you call good. It can be a bit repetitive & boring at times, but you can make a good living from it. (in relation to other HGV jobs) Having done an assortment of other driving jobs, I don’t think I’d throw in the towel on this one in a hurry. Some drivers don’t last long simply due to the early starts & weekend shift patterns. Assuming shifts & overtime are the same as up here in sunny Scotland, you will do 40k a year without getting your hands dirty.
Busteredwards out of bed at 0100 and work a whole 11+"what hours"AND DRIVE 4 hrs ONE WAY AND 4 back, come on jimmy, hens, work, most of the Scottish fish, and meat men,and there were a lot of them would do that half a shift, then do another full one…yes maybe them jobs were around then, but it was shop work FROM A TO B not a man would leave a export job to flit around supermarket depots, and you lot moan as if hard done bye .case closed.

Show me where I’v been moaning matey! Quite the opposite as far as I’m concerned, but don’t let facts get in the way of a good rant.
After trying my best to decipher your ramblings, it looks like you were one of those poor sods that had to do 2 weeks work for 1 weeks pay, you really were a hero & as long as you were happy doing that, then we’ll agree to the case being closed.

I need a change, and seeing as supermarkets are taking on, I’m thinking about jumping ship to them.
Asda just started recruiting but how much per hour?
Aldi on £11.67, Iceland £11.82.
I live in between the new Aldi RDC just off M61 and the new Asda RDC M62, so it’s a case of who pays more.
used to work on store del and you work your nuts of no change there gone back to change overs keep
that extra 50p thank you sir

A pal of mine used to work for the firm that delivered to the Home Bargains stores & told me they used to tip & reload a decker themselves at the shops, no staff there, just the driver!
The topic of this thread, ASDA, their drivers could never be accused of “working their nuts off”

Interpret that as meaning ‘mid August’ They’ve implemented new rota’s nationwide recently, & we (Scottish depots) are now suffering from an excess of drivers. Not sure if that’s the scenario elsewhere, but not convinced more newbies would be needed now.
Interesting just applied for a job out of Grangemouth this morning. So do they or do they not need drivers

The Grangemouth boys are having a strange old time at the moment. They’ve ballsed up Asda’a new intended rota by voting to adhere to the 10 hour night rule, meaning the north stores are being done by us chilled drivers on overtime shifts! Asda are responding by giving them as little to do as possible & no overtime at all. Not sure more drivers would cure their predicament.
Had phone call with an update today, as a couple have already said, letters will be goin out in the next week with a start date mid July, (fingers crossed).

Sounds like it may not be the best environment to be working at the moment…

Hi guys! Long time lurker, first time poster. Reading this thread with interest. Was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience of Asda’s Bedford RDC? Shifts/Pay/Conditions etc…
I’m a fairly new Class 1 driver, although passed my test over 3 years ago. What’s the assesment like?Been doing milk deliveries into supermarkets for the past 3.5 years so have plenty of that experience. Albeit only a few weeks in artics.

Hi Stew, can’t comment on shifts or conditions coz I’m still waiting for start date. Pay seems to be around £11.50hr mark (Warrington).
Assessment is pretty straight forward, drivers hours questionnaire followed by hook up, back on a bay, drive around for 20 mins, drop trailer and park along side.
They like to see you put manual entries For the time you spent from walking through the gate or from your assessment start time.

Thanks for the info Bud! Gotta love manual entries! Do you know if there’s a premium on hourly rate for Saturdays/Sundays?

Not as far as I’m aware, I’m sure they said its normal rate but the rate goes up with afternoon +15% and night shifts +20% or there abouts.
There’s no premium rate for weekends, & your shift premiums are- Nightshift 10.00-06.00am + £3.18 (on top of your £11.77 dayshift rate) & backshift is + £1.04. Overtime is £5.86 on top of your rate for the time of day plus the relevant shift allowance.

So if you start at say 3pm till 2am you get back shift rate til 10pm then nightshift rate from 10pm til 2am… or have I read it wrong?
