I had my interview and assessment at Burtonwood, earlier this week. I was told there and then that I’ve got a start, but they reckon it will be about 4/6 weeks until I start.

It’s worth waiting for.

Nice one.

Seems a bit odd at burtonwood don’t know the Rotas , don’t know the hours might be 40 might be 45 , can’t guarantee overtime or rest day work , start date available 4 to 6 weeks ? Etc etc
I was disappointed especially as they have such a good reputation to work for I have told them I will give it a miss somethings not right if you are just given basic hours take home of about 350 a week !!

Iwas on a 36 hr contract to start with with no guarantee of overtime or rest day working and that would of put me about £500 a month down on my previous company but whenever i put down for a rest day i got it plus overtime on top of my 9 hr day too, 4 months later i’m now on a 45 hr contract the same as all the other drivers it’s just what Asda do so i’d think again about dismissing it.

I was told at my interview that there would be plenty of overtime and once you have your rota you can book those shifts in advance. Future proof guarantees is another matter but is that not the same anywhere?

Certainly the same everywhere it is just that I can’t gamble on that basic if I couldn’t afford to live on it I never took a job where I couldn’t live on the basic pay.

Seems ridiculous you must admit to be interviewing and assessing without being able to even tell people what the rota will be apart from 60% weekends ? Whether the contract will be 36 , 40 or 45 hours how is anyone expected to commit without knowing these basic details ?
Looks to me like they are selling a dream and I have seen it before but that’s me personally.

As is said he told me that overtime and restday work could not be guaranteed and to base the basic on the 40 hrs .

Also said it was looking like 4 on 3 off with no split rests so how will your shift rotate ■■

It’s not a weekend contract is it where you work every Friday to Monday ? thus having the same days off every week .

They all say that and as I said I got rest day work whenever I put down for it and I got overtime also.

Are you working at burtonwood ?
Like I say it just seems to be a bit up in the air at the moment at burtonwood and without being shown at least a rota etc it is no good for me.

I can’t imagine Warrington being different to other depots regards their overtime policy. I was told they will be having agency support as well in there so the extra capacity is there for overtime as I see it.

The rotas are up in the air because the other Warrington and wigan depots are winding down, which drivers are staying? How many have we got to plan! What’s the best way to rotate the drivers were going to get? Etc etc. It’s a new automated site so I suppose it’s what rota fits the company.
They told me they expect 190 drivers there by the end of the year on a rota!!

No Avonmouth.

Has anyone got a phone number for Burtonwood?

No sorry but I think all correspondence is with Wigan. It was with me. In fact I’ve had nothing in writing as yet… would of thought a company that big would have confirmed the job offer even if the start date was not known. Well maybe that’s Asda’s way. Don’t give that notice in just yet.

Just rung them. They still don’t know, but they"ve got a meeting this week and might sort it then.

I’ve got an interview and assessment at Asda Didcot on Tuesday.
Heard that the rotas are weird but it’s worth a look.

They’re not weird once you see why they’re planned the way they are, but they would likely start you on a fixed weekend rota for at least the first 6 months & then you can pick & choose, to a certain degree, what time you would like to start at & shift lengths.

Good luck with it.

I did that fixed weekend Rota for about 5 months I’m now off it onto a 45 hr contract the same as the rest of the drivers so just go with it if that’s what you’re offered Steve.

I had all the assessment, interview and drivers quiz.
They do seem ok at Didcot.
The rotas were either 4 x 11.25 or 5 x 9.
They didn’t go much into anything else only saying it’s every other weekend off.
Start times are a bit of a secret but it seems a better bet than where I am.
Even bank holidays are enhanced, unlike where I am now.

Congratulations, personally I’d go for the 11.25 to give you more days off, you’ll probably have later start times as I believe it’s an ambient only depot and chilled will take priority in the morning for the stores, and yes you get well rewarded for the bank holidays which is refreshing these days, you can’t go far wrong with Asda.

Bank holidays are paid at triple time in the form of either Basic time & 2 leiu days, or double time & 1 leiu day. If one of your rest days falls on a bank holiday & you put in to work that day, it’s worth nigh on the same as weeks basic wage for some of the general haulage johnnies.
