I hope you lads get on if that’s what you want. It seems we have a different operation at Wal Mart here in the states, i drive for them out of a general merchandise RDC and we drop a loaded trailers at a store for them to unload but i think you guys unload them bins at each store ? We’re also paid by the mile and activity but paid by the hour for some things. Day cab drivers go home at night but road drivers like me sleep in the truck (Freightliner Cascadia Hotel )
I’d be interested to hear more about the daily operation over there if anyone wants to PM me or ask questions, thanks, Charles
Oh, do they still run Scanias at ASDA ?

How do the Asda £ hourly rates quoted on this thread equate (when $ exchange rate taken account) to the hourly rate for Wal-Mart in States??

I did a quick conversion to pounds and looks like we get 35 pence (if you still call them that) per mile and 12 pounds for switching trailers. An average days pay comes out to be 243 pounds.

Your day involves a lot more mileage than we do over here it seems so you don’t have the time to unload trailers at stores rather you just drop and swap… what we call trunking in the UK.

This is true, sometimes have to live load a backhaul to take back to RDC but the more miles you drive = more money. Also trunk drivers run their hours out each day and get paid to sleep in the truck which adds a few more dollars to the pay.

Mileage seems to be the way most US drivers earn their money and 80,000 USD with Walmart is one of the market leading payers too I read, equivalent to about £60,000 per year over here. Walmart are known for poorly paying their store staff but pay drivers market leading rates.

This is true Cronus, drivers put in a lot of hours but paid well. Office staff are also paid well but don’t know what the store staff get paid but i think they are at the bottom of the ladder.
I hope all goes well with you guys when you start, the first twenty years are the hardest, ha ha.
