STORM ALERT

Ill wager that whichever way the wind is blowing, all the takeaway containers, plastic bottles, beer cans will end up in my front garden
That will teach me to make sure the wheelie bin is secure :stuck_out_tongue:

Both severn crossings closed over night

Areas closed as strong winds begin to batter UK
The Highways Agency said the Queen Elizabeth II bridge on the M25, which forms part of the Dartford River Crossing between Essex and Kent, was expected to close in the very early hours of Monday morning due to the high winds.

However, the tunnel part of the crossing is expected to remain open and will operate in contraflow (one tunnel running in each direction) to allow traffic to still get across the Thames.

The agency said other areas were also being affected by strong winds:

The Sheppey crossing in Kent, which carries the A249 to the Isle of Sheppey, was closed earlier on Sunday and there have been speed restrictions in place on the Dartford crossing
M48 suspension bridge (Severn crossing) has been closed to high-sided and other vulnerable vehicles during the day and has been closed to all traffic from 7pm on Sunday
Authorities on both sides of the Severn have taken the decision to also close the second Severn Crossing, the M4, from 3am on Monday

Eurostar will not run any cross-channel rail services until 7am and at least 60 flights have been cancelled out of Heathrow Airport

iv`e just looked at the 5 day forecast for castle donnington on the met office web site…general wind speed…20mph,with gusts upto a maximum of 35mph.
how will we cope

If you wear a syrup. . nail the frecker down.

the prime minister called an emergency meeting this afternoon…to discuss what actions need to be taken.

You should be ashamed at posting such a dangerously understated level of the risks which we’re all facing in the south east at this time.I’ve sent my complaint to the HSE concerning the post considering the Hurricane shelter which I’ve spent all day digging for the benefit of the local community according to the met office information. At present wind speeds are already at around 10 mph and falling. :smiling_imp:

Just bought two 99p windmills and a kite off to a field nearby to re live my short trouser days  :stuck_out_tongue: :open_mouth:

That seems to be consistent with reports that rain has flooded the tunnel to roof height and Heathrow is littered with upside down aircraft which will take some time to get back on their wheels assuming the even higher winds forecast don’t do the job for them.

According to the latest weather forecasts from the Daily Express, we’ll start with golf-ball-sized hail covering the south-east late on Sunday, on Sunday night 500 mph winds will demolish any structures more than 3 feet high whilst ripping up the tarmac from the roads, early Monday morning at least 6 feet of rain will fall, sweeping any remaining structures into the sea in gigantic floods, then great cracks will open up in the earth’s crust and pour red hot molten lava all over the home counties; on Monday morning a legion of hell’s most putrescent demons will march out of the caves of the deep to devour the very souls of any who still live; the second coming of Princess Diana and the re-appearance of Madelaine McCann is expected around tea time.

A local boy to me has been swept into the sea this afternoon and not yet recovered. Sadly the search has just been called off for the night.

Did read about that on the news,a terrible tragedy. Condolences to his family.

In view of that at least more accurate if still understated level of the threat facing us I’ll think about wether or not to send my complaint to the HSE and Met Office concerning such blatant complacency in the previous post. :smiling_imp:

its now 22.23 here in Cornwall and the conditions are getting worse outside , i have a couple of pallets for the Isle Of Scilley ferry due to be sent over on Monday morning from Penzance…i dont think so …

If its bad park them up until tomorrow afternoon, better a day late than not at all.

Here in pembrokeshire right now , its clear sky , no rain & not a hint of wind , (except the misses in bed ) … all good so far

Its not a problem Dave , its getting worse , i am parked on A30 near Hayle and i am being rocked to sleep , they reckon the main storm has not made land yet , its due to arrive in the early hours of the morning , i would love to be parked down on the quayside somewhere so that i could watch the sea during the worst of the storm , a once in a life time experience i bet

I love watching extreme weather. I’m sat by the sea now in the car. It’s not very bad at the moment compared to the hype but if as predicted it will get worse then it won’t be a good idea to stay here too long.
