I’m surprised post brexit people rather the idea of a German company taking contracts off UK hauliers.
Rottweiler22:
Maritime are getting big, but they won’t touch supermarket deliveries.
They’ve been doing spot hire traction since 2011 and have been providing dedicated transport at reading since it opened, as well as fenny lock
It’s not the only contract they’ve lost recently.
I guess the years of bad behavior throughout Europe has eventually caught up with them.

I wonder who the five interested firms could be? Stobarts, DHL, XPO, and Wincanton I can think of, but I can’t think of anyone else. Turners, possibly even Waberers if they want a good price!Maritime are getting big, but they won’t touch supermarket deliveries.
I was told by a source that Stobarts aren’t the cheapest haulier out there, and DHL can, and have undercut them in the past. Like it’s been said, Tesco will probably want a better service, for less money.
Gregorys?

Miles off the mark there mate, they have about 15 units at reading DC on tesco work, granted not all on store work but they do plenty of store deliveries if there’s no supplier work. Come a busy period for Tesco and Maritime units from far and wide are in Reading on a weekend, if there’s money to be earned they’ll be there rather than someone else earn it

Fair enough, I haven’t seen any up north, that’s all. In that case, best not rule Maritime out then!
I think they’d have to change their no agency policy if they were to take on the Tesco job. Dangerous packing by the 90% foreign loaders at Goole (toilet roll or crisps at the bottom of the cage, boxes of beer on top!), some attrocious, smelly, dirty and rusty Tesco trailers, and horrible shops to get to, such as manouvering around parked cars, tight streets and inner-city areas. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea! I’m just wondering why I do it actually!

As far as I’m aware it was an aim of Maritime to get the contract, how true that is I don’t know but I guess we’ll soon find out if it’s up for grabs.
The top heavy cages ain’t as bad a problem as it used to be at Reading, they relocated alotnof stock in the warehouse to try and stop it, it’s worked to some extent but does still happen every now and again.
As you say it ain’t everyone’s cup of tea but it ain’t a bad gig to be on.
When I was delivering too tesco stores , maritime were often at those same stores delivering milk ( think it was for Arla ) , a couple of there drivers said they didn’t want the work but were asked too tender for it , stuck in a stupid figure and got it , that’s why they were doing it .
Seen them Notts , batley etc
Stobarts have lost out to DHL in Ireland I might add.
XPO have taken over from DHL in the UK at the Iceland depot in Warrington and the B&Q contract in Leigh. DHL may pull out a few stops to win the Tesco contract at Widnes to claw something back?
XPO are growing rapidly.
All will be revealed in time.
Maybe it could see a lot of Stobart haulage work passed over to WS Transport?
Who knows, nothing is forever.
I delivered to a Tesco store in Manchester last week and the manager told me DHL were going to start delivering to them
how true dunno

What you do mate, is ring a couple of times. Then you set the alarm function on your mobile phone to a time that is near the end of your shift. Then you get on the bunk and go to sleep. If they ring back with an instruction, carry it out (if you want to).
Failing that, wake up, take your hand off your ■■■■ and drive back to the yard. Then go home.
And put your hand back on your ■■■■.
I would do just that, exactly the same, but would draw the line on putting my hand on EagerB’s ■■■■.
+1
But might consider some ■■■■ action if it’s a pretty one.
If in doubt hold station till clear instructions are received.
1st lesson of truck club, oh and cover ones arse.

They do a fair bit of Tesco RDC-to-RDC work, and they also do store deliveries along the A34 Reading to Southampton corridor. No agency drivers either, just full timers.
Please stop talking about touching my ■■■■.
I hate folk touching my forehead area.
A few of the lads at the depot are self-employed, and work for William Stobart’s best mate. He leases some vehicles from Stobart, and they just do Tesco deliveries, running under Stobart’s planners, making him some money in the process. Anyway, this fellow is always on the end of the phone, and a lot of the lads have been making enquiries as to whether Stobarts may be losing the Tesco contract, as naturally, if they were, it would be imperative that they know, so they can look for new jobs, ASAP. Bear-in-mind he is very close to William Stobart, and he says that nothing is happening with the contract, so Stobarts will be keeping the Tesco work. All of the rest is driver’s room rumour.
So, according to a reliable source, the Tesco contract will remain firmly in Stobart’s hands.

You see a few WS wagons pulling Tesco Trailers.
There was one backed into our local Tesco a few weeks back.
Presumably they are running out of Goole and are operating as a subby.

That’ll finish them off in the next 2 yrs…can you imagine how much they had to cut their price to retain a contract that they have abysmal performance on?

But this is not drivers problem -they cut price or increase price.Drivers get wages from job and may be pay rise 2-5 percent.I not see any company who make pay rise 10-20 percent.Price undercutting it is not jst logistic problem.Every discount in store -it is price cut for someone.Same we can see in security, constraction and more.

But this is not drivers problem
It will be when Stobarts begin clawing back their losses. Where is the first place Stobarts will go to do that?
In last 5-10 years plenty company maked delivery Outsourcing to a Third-Party Logistics Provider. And near all just by 3-5 years contract not forevers contract. So every single transport company will have critical time when will be renewal contract and sign new.If all happy -care on ,if not same job will do somebody else. And may be drivers get better money or may be less.
