I was born and lived for 30yrs 500yds down the road from that junction and there is ABSOLUTELY no way you can swing an artic round on that road. Oh and I drove them for just over 40yrs.
Yes but didn’t need recovery Realised it wasn’t going to happen and was able to get myself out of the situation. It was in the 70’s and was was driving a typical general haulage outfit Foden S80 4x2 short wheelbase unit an 40ft tandem axle flat trailer. I was trying to find a place to load bagged salt for Birkenhead Docks and been given the directions from another driver, and with my youth, inexperience and arrogance, after coming at it from the M62 WB I’d missed the turning I should have taken and thought I’ll just spin it here alas I was wrong and before I really messed up I was able to back up and go further up the road and turn round safely and finally get to the loading point. I wasn’t trying to make the left turn I was trying to spin it round and there just isn’t enough room to do it as you will get stuck in the top of Wall Hill Rd; because of the way the road falls away and you need all the room you can get at that spot. lesson learnt.

why get arsey dave?just what i was thinking…certainly touched a nerve.perhaps dave has come unstuck at this junction before,so when fb11 dared to suggest it could be done…he saw it as an attack on his ability
He’s already said he’s come un ■■■■ there before in a 4 wheeler with a 40’ trailer
davepenn54:
@Fbb11, Now, now fella you haven’t read my post correctly have you The challenge was to spin a 45ft artic round there not to make the left turn, that is what you said you could do, the turn is possible under the right circumstances but is a very dangerous manouvre and driver’s with a wealth of experience like me, Paul, Waynedl and a lot of others on here would just go further up the road where you can turn round and approach it head on which is something I’ve done numerous times to load down that road.Now I can arrange a 3 axle unit and 3 axle insulated 45ft trailer for you to perform the impossible. I know for a fact that you cannot spin that size of outfit round at that spot so I will also arrange for Stoneywood’s biggest recovery vehicle to be on site as well so you will have to have a big wedge of cash with you as they don’t give credit to chancer’s or knowall’s
Just a bit of inside info for you, coz I don’t want you to think I am being unfair but it was impossible to spin a short wheelbase 2 axle unit coupled up to 2 axle 40ft flat trailer at that spot without getting into problems whatever it looks like on ‘geekleview’ :roll:
And as it seems you have only seen the spot on that medium I can only assume you have money to spare because it is going to be an expensive day out for you if not very embarrassing but you crack on matey I’ll make some money out of it methinks YBF, Utube and others.BTW Also bring enough cash to cover all the Brekkies for the 25 staff from Goodall’s Transport who will be part of the audience, it should be a fun day

Dave Penn;
I too looked at the streetview thing and thought that would definitely be on,albeit with a bit of care.Wouldn’t even attempt the Swain’s one,with or without the HGV no turn left sign.Have a nice friendly go at it.Whoever has a free breakfast,make sure you both enjoy it.Only one thing worse than a bad loser.A bad winner.
i was right then
Just found out that the driver involved in the incident above has now unfortunately been demoted.

Well no you are wrong there ‘commonrail’ it didn’t touch a nerve or did I take it as an attack on my ability I just knew what Fbb11 was saying was total bollox but as with a lot of people on here with a limited amount of experience or knowledge of the haulage game they don’t want to listen to a bit of friendly advice and BTW I wasn’t getting arsey with him, he was and probably still is supremely confident in his ability to defy the laws of physics. The road & turning has, to my knowledge, not been changed in anyway since I took a shot at it, if anything the top of Wall Hill Rd; has become more dangerous because of land movement and really should have restrictions put on it and the main road (A62) is not a road that you should even contemplate doing such a slow and dangerous manouevre like spinning a 60ft artic round on.
But heyho what do I know about spinning trucks around on a busy dangerous road that I know well eh ? OK I tried it in 1976 and was able to see I was going to end up in a real mess well before that point and I’d decided it wasn’t going to happen and managed to reverse the outfit straight again before any major problems or traffic queue’s built up. As I’ve said it was a lesson learnt but as Fbb11 never comes up North we will never see his amazing driving skills but I’m sure all his workmates marvel at his outstanding ability to defy the laws of physics I feel truly humbled just by his presence on this thread
Keep up the good work Fbb11 you are a marvel, I bow to your superior ablility and skill

@Fbb11, it’s not getting to me at all It was you who said in all confidence that you knew you could spin a 60ft outfit round at that spot just by looking at the picture I and at least 4 others who actually know the area very well know it can’t be done but you seem unable to accept that. If a 50ft outfit can’t be spun there how do you expect to be able to do it in something that is a minimum 10ft longer with 2 extra axles
How do you think the posters who have said it can’t be done have got that knowledge to be confident about their forthright assertions ? It’s you it is getting to because you have set yourself up to do the impossible I know it can’t be done so do not have a problem with it and would never try it again but maybe you need to learn a few lessons to bring you down from your deluded thinking that you are the only one who has a good eye for weighing up the job. Inexperience usually comes out in arrogance and trying to show how much better you are than others and you seem to fit that criteria at the moment. So as I’ve already said crack on you are very boring, It can’t be done and I and others know that for a fact so it’s all up to you now.Stoneywood Motors are the recovery operators you’ll be needing to contact when you need saving
Regards
Dave Penn;
First of all Dave you need stop spouting crap saying “im very boring”, clearly not as its kept you occupied most of your Sunday.
And secondly im not deluded thinking im the only one thats got a good eye as ive said in a previous post “I think i have got a good eye for the job as most other drivers”
Its funny how you have given me ■■■■ about reading posts properly yet you seemingly are forgetting most of the stuff i have said.
I say i think i can do it, you and others say it cant be done. So what, cant people ever have a disagreement on here without it turning into a ■■■■■ fight and personal attacks? Your so adamant it cant be done, disagree with me and leave it at that, no need to start calling me a plank and saying im boring, you’ve even somehow manage to offend Carryfast in all of this as well and he aint even here!!
And it obviously has got to you, maybe your scared that i might actually do it

Dave the Renegade:
That wouldn’t be the TNUK Stansfield Paul ?Fortunately no
Loaded with steel plate for the nearby K Steels on Holme Lane it turned out to be a long recovery.
He had to drop the trailer and couple up again from the opposite side but with the weight the front of the trailer bent and a fork lift was called in to help raise it during coupling up.
All this took around four hours causing traffic chaos during the evening rush.
Now over to the experts could you do this turn?
Once again, some bright spark thinks it’s a good idea to pull the pin.
If he’d have called for professional recovery, they would have just winched the back of the trailer around.
Base to base, maybe an hour/hour and a half - £150.
And the trailer wouldn’t have been damaged doing it.
9 times out of 10, pulling the pin is the worst thing to do.

Thanks mate, its a pleasure to bring a breath of fresh air into the industry with me for you and others.
Hang on though i thought your mate at Goodalls was going lend me his truck for the morning?
And also im not saying its not dangerous with traffic and the camber etc etc, forget all that im just saying i think physically it can be done.

I cannot see a problem with reversing that one out, it looks like he has taken a post out with the offside front but with all those men around as eyes and road blocks, that should have come out of there the same way it went in
@Fbb11, You are so funny, sounds like yer about to burst into tears, does yer mum come round and tuck you in at night & make sure you are eating properly
You have seen a picture on google street view and no you didn’t say I think I could do that you shouted loudly that you KNOW you could do it and even when a lot of poster’s who either live within metres of the place or like myself have actually attempted to spin round there, albeit with a smaller outfit, you have still kept to your first assertion
I think I can only use a metaphor from my days of making a Sunday lunch for 25 people on a regular basis ‘If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen’ Looks like your pan of bedtime milk is boiling over Yer plank

you had better make it for 26 people then mate as i will want to go home on a full stomach after i prove you wrong
You gonna sort me out with a unit then or what??
@stevieboy308, glad you liked my post, coz from everything you’ve ever posted, not just on this thread, has highlighted your plankness as well. You haven’t contributed anything positive to this thread only veiled abuse to me Haha Yer can’t even do that upfront and you have done it in other post’s I’ve contributed to Beginning to think you might be one of them cyberstalker’s Yer know what I mean no life, whinges about everything but picks someone out on a forum like this to stalk and make unnecessary post’s about them. Yer Plank
Nighty Night to you as well
Dave Penn;
Just seen a post from another plank ‘rockape2620’ I assume you are another one who can do the same as Fbb11 by just looking at a picture on google street view. Now go and read the whole thread and you will see that ‘Fbb11’ didn’t just say he thought he could spin a 60ft artic around at that spot he SHOUTED that he knew he could do it Now if either of you have got anything positive to add apart from having a dig at me for telling the plank he is wrong and it cannot be done because of the width of the road and the state of the junction not allowing you to get out of it safely. I despair at the standard of driver that is coming into the industry today knowalls, planks & idiots who think computer a image means everything is the real thing and anybody over 25 doesn’t really know what they are talking about coz the job is so different and so much more stressfull.
Nighty Night to you as well yer plank
