I’m glad I’m not average. It’s saved me £1,000
But yours is 2 -1 training while I would think other folks will be 1-1 and that will make a difference with cost.

How do you work that out
The price is the the same with either 2 to 1 for 8 hours or 1 to 1 for 4 hours on each session
Hi, I’m interested in a ce course going from cat d. Where are you based ? Thanks.
Hi. NG17 3FW. Free accommodation if you are more than 70 miles away.
Hope this helps, Pete S
may be controversial but I think the original. system should be kept. May be biased as its what I did B to C then C To CE
The way I see it though its the E is jus the trailer test. You cant do a direct BE and then be able to drive the B (or are they bringing this out to keep it inline with the new rules :p)
But like I said I may be biased but thats my view. I think the C and driving the rigid for a few months while waiting for my CE training and test helped me out as it was the little stepping stone that gave me the confidence behind the wheel.

The rules are also changing. Those with a car license will automatically get B+E from the 15th November.
I think it was meant like this -
Can do CE instead of C then CE so why not BE as the first test instead of B
Hi Pete, do you have anything available on 19th November ?

Doubtful. But the only way to find out is to call the office 01623 555661.
Hope this helps, Pete S
Will do, thanks
Have been going back and forth on this question myself but today after sending the email to DVLA to get my provisional updated to C+E. Surprised at getting a quick automated reply I called up Peter Smythe Training and got booked in for car to artic course for February.
Good choice. All the best with it.

Thank you, its the reverse test first a couple of weeks before the regular training and test so hope that goes OK.

It’s great being able to split the test like that. Takes a lot of the pressure out of the road drive.
All the best with it, Pete S
I stated years ago that this should be the case as it seemed daft that a test could be failed on the off road bit after a great safe drive
Splitting the test is what nudged me into going straight for C+E rather than just C. Plus I get more training time in the course to get used to the truck.

I think you are definitely doing the right thing even if you want to drive rigids. You will learn more in 1 week on the roads by yourself in a rigid than on any course just take a bit of extra care. At the end of the day a rigid drives similarly to a car though obviously because it is so much bigger you need to get used to leaving more room for cornering, taking wider arcs and being aware of you size which comes quickly with experience.
Getting experience of one big thing to help you get used to another completely different big thing is unnecessary imho. I accept I have only driven fuel bowsers and I base my opinion on that only so I will happily accept other peoples views !
Pete S:
I also wonder how long it will take for the straight to CE system to be fully up and running. I would like to hear what instructors think is the best way and what they recommend. I am going to speak to local training schools and see what they think.
I think most schools will be able to offer direct to CE in January, or thereabouts.
Beware recommendations from trainers. Bear in mind that most instructors have never taught direct to CE - they would have been instructing before 1997 for them to have any experience. There are huge problems within the training industry where the fleets are geared more towards C. So they may be persuaded to recommend C training first.
I work with PSTT. And that is set up in such a way that it can respond to any outcome without concerns about fleet.
As I started training in 1971 (buses) and 1974 (trucks) I have a world of experience in training direct to CE which I will be passing on to the training staff at PSTT.
Keep the discussion going.
