Speeding-what to expect!

Finally happened, never had a speeding ticket for over 15 years, but apparently i was caught doing 48 in a temp speed limit M6 Southbound J20-J21 Thelwall Viaduct! Kind of miffed as at all these bloody traffic works in and around Cheshire, M6,M5 etc etc etc its always been 50.
I know, it was me in control of the veh and i should have been paying attention! With all these traffic works going on i make a point of always going 1-2mph below the posted limit, however, my question is what am i to expect? Do i get the chance to do one of these speed awareness course or is it a straight to jail, do not collect £200 type scenario?

If u havent done a course in 3yrs i think u should be offered one its at the cops discretion i think

I was told its firing squad if you get caught there, sorry kid, you do the crime …

Say bye to the wife and kids and beg for mercy.

Or it could be what ^ said lol.

Speed awareness course.

Two of ours got caught there, one was doing 47.

Don’t pay it if you don’t think your guilty mate. Ask to see photographic proof first if your not convinced.

Lined up with a blindfold on and ten :sunglasses: conscripts armed with lee Enfield bolt action 303s to pop you one! please send licence back to dvla and ask for HGV entitlement to be took off with immediate effect! :grimacing: caught a lot of people out apparently 40 max after about 3.2 yards of a fifty zone! SCAMERAS at best, milking the poor motorist out of THEIR HARD EARNED

Oh dear, another Armchair Lawyer… Incorrect posts like this should not be allowed, it could end up costing the OP the chance of a Fixed Penalty or Speed Awareness Course.

At this stage you / your company will receive a NIP - This is merely to ascertain the driver of the vehicle, you will get your own once the company names you. To this, you will need to sign the form to confirm you were driving and give your Driving Licence Number.

They will then write back and either offer you a Speed Awareness Course or a Fixed Penalty. At this stage, you are able to settle without going to court.

If you get bolshie and start asking for proof/evidence etc. then they are more than certainly going to withdraw the SAC option, possibly both and refer it to the magistrates court, after all, speeding is a criminal offence.

There is no way you can appeal a FPN/NIP, you either accept it or you don’t. You are not entitled to any evidence until you plead not guilty at court.

I know it ■■■■■, but them’s the rules.

Its not that i don’t think I’m guilty (suddenly i hate that word, GUILTY!!) just miffed that after travelling to and from Plymouth/Wigan for the past 3 weeks, i get caught out on a average speed check camera!!! Especially when all the other roadworks are set at 50!
Have also noticed several contradictory road signs along that route, i.e. day time traffic signs (for the rush hours i presume) often left in view alongside what i can only think as the evening roadsigns whilst workers are present.
Im not making excuses (Well, maybe i am!) after all i was caught! Just still smarting after a 15 year clean driving licence!!!

Would it help if i sent a box of Milk Tray along with the ticket!?

lol, that may come under the “Bribery Act”

If you really think you have a case with regards to the signage, then nip over to pepipoo forums where the experts on the very subject reside.

SAC is £97.50 and takes 4 hrs, That’s what I paid out yesterday for mine :imp: :imp:

Thirwell was 40 mate even the gantrys had 40 and flashing lights

Hiya…not 100% sure but i think the Photo costs £60 for a start…sorry to say you’ve done wrong now pay up.
remember its only about 140 days until xmas. plod are starting to save up early…not enough people know how
these average speed cameras work. i cringe when i see the boy racers slow down for a second then speed up after
the camera what idiots…sorry for your mistake pal as you was just trying to earn a few bob…i’ve been there.
John

When you finally get your fixed penalty just go ahead and pay it (or take the course) within the time limit specified, don’t let it drag on.
I got into the “…I’ll do it this weekend - I’ll do it when I get paid… Plenty of time…” scenario and just ended up forgetting about it.
It cost me £305 + 3 points in the end when they took it through the court.
The original fine was a £60 fixed or £70 for the course.

Only got the NIP today and is already returned, Recorded Post, to our glorious Cheshire Constabulary! Plus scanned and saved in the trusty computer.
Just P***** off that after 15 odd years of a clean licence i get nabbed because i was stupid for all of half a mile, in the dark, alone, scared, in enemy territory (Im from Devon!) and just trying to put a crust of bread
on the table for the children. Dear God, i was just trying to feed the family… :frowning:

Just a thought for you…

Although the SAC is not supposed to affect your car insurance, like penalty points would…some insurance companies will ask at renewal if you’ve been on a SAC

I just renewed my childrens car insurances, and was asked if any of them has been on a SAC within the last 12 months… This was Admiral, but I can’t speak for any other companies…

Much like you Darktower, I got collared the other week after an eternity of having a spotless licence. After a long s**t-filled shift, going home dog tired at 3.15am - 38 in a 30, so I hope and expect to be offered SAC.
Guys - Scuse the ignorance, but are the options (1) To pay the fine promptly out of magistrates and get 3pts on your licence. (2) Pay for and attend the mind-numbing SAC and keep your licence points free?

Like I say, its been a long, long time since I fell foul, and Im not sure if such a course option even existed back then.
I know I could google this, but once again, I`m too knackered to be arsed tonight!

Yes. That’s what happened when I got done. Be warned though, some forces don’t allow you to do the course in another area. I got done in Liphook, closest course I could get was at a hotel in Basingstoke (I live in Cheshire)

Luckily the hotel in question was one of my drops. I’d mentioned it to the guvnor that I’d been done, and was looking into doing a course down there. He asked me to keep him posted (which naturally I forgot) so I just wanged it on break, and got paid for the privilege of taking the course. (Handy that I always nail 95% of my drops on day 1 of my 2 dayer.)

So even though you’ve been travelling through those roadworks for 3 weeks you have completely failed to notice what the speed limit is. Right, okay… There are a ton of “40” signs on the approach to both sides and a similar amount placed throughout the actual roadworks. If you are too blind and stupid to notice them then you deserve everything you get and more. The sooner that thick ■■■■■ like you are off the roads, the better.
