Speed Limit

old_n07:

For example the change to the HGV speed limit will allow us to set up tougher procedures and sanctions for lorry drivers caught exceeding the new speed limits.

Be interesting to see what these new sanctions will be :unamused:

Let’s hope they apply them equally to those who think it’s OK to block both lanes of a dual carriageway for what seems like miles when overtaking.

I often wonder whether these drivers are the same ones who get all angry about having to sit behind Tesco at 38mph, but find it perfectly OK to keep a trail of cars and vans behind them while they lumber past another idiot at a speed difference of 0.1mph.

NewLad:
If you’ve got a problem with me Mike just say what it is, nearly every time I comment on this forum you shoot down my post?

Here we go !! You’re right to want everyone slower out your way, your’re right to want to do no more than 10 hours, you’re right to spend your money how you like. I was wrong to believe that you come across as “everyone get out my way”, sorry about that. Do whatever makes you happy.

When have I said I want everyone slower out of my way? I admit I’ve said why do 45 in a 40, your just making it more dangerous to overtake.

I don’t WANT to be doing more than 10 hours a day in an ideal World, but we don’t live in an ideal World, nevertheless it’s still what I’d want.

As for spend my money on my wife, I still don’t get your point?

So tell me what’s the problem?

If they pass these new regulations, i suppose it means that the limiters will have to be changed to take into account the higher limits of 60 mph, that can only be good news for the majority of sensible drivers.

It’s 60 mph now on motorways, they put the 56 limit on our ‘Toys’ to stop us ‘Overspeeding’ on every hill (even the silly little ones)
So they won’t be changing our speed limiter settings. [CRYING FACE]

I’ve just told you the problem. You come across as everyone out my way. You don’t like people doing 35 in front of you , you don’t like people doing 40 in front of you, you don’t like people doing 45 in front of you. You probably just don’t like anyone in front of you that holds you up. You’re just a selfish driver, as are many of us you aint unique. If you can laugh at everyone who may now have to go faster and lose pay then i’m entitled to laugh at you who wants to run around chasing his own arse. That simple, no more no less. So its not a personal problem i have with you, no more that you have a personal problem with the trolley dolley that holds you up. If me having an opposing view to you offends you then sorry about that.
So let me back up a bit…

Hallelujah, all you lazy [zb] hanging it out will have to find another way of getting your hours in.

Should save me an hour a day at least! Can’t wait!

Good on ya !!! Get the pricks out the way.

Hows that ?

Just an observation here, I wonder if anyone agrees. Over the last 10 years or so I’ve noticed more and more drivers sticking to the 40. Back in the day it was virtually unheard of but with the increase in speed cameras, health n safety ballics and now this DCPC thing folks have slowed right down. Now we are a problem. We are in the way. We weren’t before, but now we are. We’re maybe causing an inconvenience to some posh folk in posh cars who hardly noticed our existence before…and that’s why I think this change has come about.
I must admit, whenever I’ve had a line of cars behind me I’ve hoped a good few of 'em have had coppers and traffic wardens in them, trying to get home for tea after nicking people all day.
My last fine was as 45 on the A64…not bitter or anything!
Also, I don’t think 50 is appropriate in many cases of A road and can foresee many frustrated hgv drivers who will bunch up behind someone who chooses to drive carefully.

I am glad the limit is being increased, it’s ancient, it should have been done 10 years ago!
What ■■■■■■ me off is people who say “I’m hourly paid so I do the speed limit” I have NO issue with people doing the speed limit, why do people always used the hourly paid excuse and not the “its the law so that’s what I’m going to do.” I’d have more respect for that, like I’ve said before I’ll sit behind someone doing 40 patiently, until I get my chance to safely get by, what really get my goat is 45mph, your still breaking the law so what’s the excuse, it just makes the distance between to get past greater and more dangerous for all vehicles.

Studies have shown (which is why they’re changing the limit) that cars will sit behind a lorry at 50mph but take sill risks at speeds lower.

As for other people’s wages, they don’t concern me, why should I have to sit around all day so they can earn a decent wage?

Thankfully the government agrees!

dont know why all the excitment, it wont make ounce of diffrence as everyone will just carry on doing what they do now IF they raise the limit

‘… ministers are upping the speed limits to 50 from 40 on rural roads…’

‘…Ministers…’ my ■■■■ :open_mouth:

EU clerks have pointed out to their Westminster underlings that the EU’s UK zone must comply with The European Federation’s steam-roller ambition.

I’m guessing it could be like the DCPC which never had one - but (because I don’t know) where exists a properly accountable UK ‘Needs Analysis’ with democratic British approval independent of the EU for this change to happen

DonutUK:
Great, means you’re fine to sit on the limiter! 10% + 2 mph = 57!

no such thing our kid! :sunglasses: dream on :grimacing:

Could be right mate, there is a lot of naivety on this thread with those that think that the govt is doing us all a favour and we are all gonna live happily ever after :unamused:
So now we can all teararse about on the limiter all day safely or otherwise (yeh I know a lot of knob heads on here do already) for the SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY, even though it has been stated officially how much more we will make our companies in increased productivity… But we sure as hell will not get a bite at the same cherry :bulb:
Let’s hope that the next problem solved by the govt who are intent in doing you naive guys a big favour  :unamused: will be the lack of o/night parking facilities
I am sure they are drawing up the plans for free truckstops as we speak right now eh?

Sorry to suggest that ‘…naivety…’ may extend to thinking it’s the UK gov’t that are behind it.

:bulb: My sterling pound says it’s nothing to do with with any pro-activity of the UK Government

:bulb: Another quid says it’s an EU clerk bringing their UK Westminster underlings into line with a European Federation requirement

According to no less an authority than the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership boss the brakes on a 44 Tonne HGV would not cope with 50 MPH on a single carriageway. For this reason he is opposed to the changes . [Look North] on the day it was announced .

But who cares what Safety Partnerships say? They wont support an increase because with the 10+2mph guidelines, the chances of making money from lorries is almost zero. A bit like asking a DCPC trainer to sign a petition to scrap the whole system.
As for Brake, who listens or cares about their opinions? They wont be happy until we all drive at 10mph.

Hiya Keith, I was talking in a broad context when using the term “government” I was not referring specifically to Dave’s crew.
I agree that we are governed ultimately by Brussels, but did not think it was necessary to refer to it in said context.
That aside I am not as big a fan of the EU as you are

What absolute bile…

Pronounced speed differences between traffic can pose a risk, but the way to address this is by preventing car drivers going too fast, not speeding trucks up

Just what planet are these idiots living on??

B…

Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership wants the speed limit for HGVs kept at 40 because in their opinion speed kills, they also want Tractors etc to pull over to enable traffic to speed up. Surely one of these scenarios must cancel out the other. Living in sight of the A17 i see the frustration daily of traffic stuck behind tractors or lorries sticking to the limit .It seems as if lorries holding up traffic is a good thing according to the Police but Tractors doing it is a bad thing . Ive always noticed the lack of frustration at 50 and the down right aggression sticking to 40. .
