Speed Limit

Great, means you’re fine to sit on the limiter!

10% + 2 mph = 57!

but you’ll still have the Nobs trying to push it faster :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

no comment!

Great to see the cyclists have already condemned truck drivers. According to some we’re already going to be squashing more cyclists, pedestrians and horses and it’s not even been a change in law yet.

There’s no comments on the Telegraph page mate. Or is already in the Daily Fail?

Twitter. They’re out in force saying that they’re still made from the same flesh and bone as before. I don’t have the heart to tell them that ein hit at 40 by a truck will have much the same effect as being hit at 50 just that it will be over quicker.

makes you wanna go slower to make it last longer don’t it   :grimacing:

The single carriageway 40 to 50mph rise is planned to take effect in early 2015, and by April at the latest.
Local authorities will still be able to limit speeds on roads that they think will be inappropriate (though how that will be communicated to drivers is anybody’s guess…)
The Government explains that this move will save freight operators’ time, with the move estimated to be worth £11 million a year. It also argues that this change will remove outdated restrictions dating from the 1960s to enable roads to be used better. The change is also expected to deliver congestion reduction benefits and lessen “platoons of traffic” on busy, high standard rural roads with large numbers of trucks. As a result, the 20mph differential between the lorry and car speed limits on single carriageway roads, where cars have to overtake to pass lorries, will be reduced (info from the FTA)

Legislation that will implement this change in the law will be put to Parliament during the next few months. The existing 40mph limit will continue to apply until the new law comes into effect. The amended speed limit will cover single carriageway roads outside built up areas in England and Wales, unless specific lower local speed limits are set.

The raising of 50 to 60mph on dual carriageways is now out for consultation. If the hgv limit on dual carriageways is changed, that would be done at the same time as for single carriageways.

Left hand down!:
It’ll never happen. Brake will make sure of it.

It might happen but I agree with LHD about Brake. One of the “charities” we could quite easily do without.

So if the 50 limit comes in, does that mean Tescos will now do 46?

I’d be extra careful out there guys. The local police authorities will be rubbing their hands in anticipation of possible revenue catching drivers doing over 40 because of what they’ve read in the papers today, I expect their identifying hidden corners to park the scamera vans on right now.

It’s simple, if a road is considered that much of a risk then the speed will be reduces for all vehicles and it will change from a NSL to a 50,40,30

Hallelujah, all you lazy ■■■■■■■ hanging it out will have to find another way of getting your hours in.

Should save me an hour a day at least! Can’t wait!

It’s a limit not a target.
But if you’re on day rate you would need to race around to make it feel like you’re getting a better hourly rate and to get the best spot in the lay by…

The government is also bringing forward associated measures so we continue to improve safety.

For example the change to the HGV speed limit will allow us to set up tougher procedures and sanctions for lorry drivers caught exceeding the new speed limits.

Be interesting to see what these new sanctions will be :unamused:

I agree with you it is a limit not a target, but it takes the Michael when you stuck behind some tool doing 35 down the new part of the A16, I don’t go tear arsing down the A228 but will do on the A17, if I can see a long way in front and the road has decent width to it I don’t see the problem.

I am on day rate, but I don’t want to be doing over 10 hours a day nevermind 15.

If you’ve got a problem with me Mike just say what it is, nearly every time I comment on this forum you shoot down my post?

So I want my missus to have nice things what’s wrong with that, I’ve earned the money, I’ll do as I please with it.
