at what speed would a one ton saloon car travel in order to have the same kinetic energy (crash damage) as a 44 ton wagon travelling at 50mph?

Who cares? If we use that train of thought we’ll all have a man infront with a red flag.

I’ve just sacked 22 years of Institute of Advanced Motorist (IAM) membership to save £40 blah squid per year
It now goes into my ale & BJ fund
I got fed-up giving tax paid ackers to a self-licking lollipop fraternity of mainly well-off, crimplene festooned, roll-over, pin-headed & constipated retiree’s

Studies have shown (which is why they’re changing the limit) that cars will sit behind a lorry at 50mph but take sill risks at speeds lower.Thankfully the government agrees!
They sure do. Also the fact they are removing many NSL and replacing them with 50MPH limits. No one will be going faster than 50 on them, well legally.

Tesco will still do 36They care about our Safety !!!
So much so that they fed us horse to keep the cholesterol levels down.
Cannot see the change making much difference apart from a lot of supermarkets needing some hot water to remove stickers, there are not too many who plod at 40 from what I have seen, only a few in hi vis jackets driving axors.

About 330 mph if I’ve done my sums right.

However, is there a grey-faced scribe somewhere over water dictating:

‘‘it won’t make a difference’’ ■■ some are saying on here.
Ok
Whats the difference between someone doing 50 now and someone doing 50 when this comes in next year?
3 points for speeding perhaps
Its all about making something legal which the vast majority do anyway.
One things for sure when routeplanning, A-roads will become a more viable option thus helping to reduce M’way congestion and clog up A-Roads, leading to a Nimby epidemic of biblical proportions.
These same Nimby’s will be tootling along between villages at 45-48 on their weekly day out to be confronted by a truck up their chuff planning to overtake.
Thumbs up from me though as 40mph is just silly in this day an age.
50mph is a target & sustainable minimum speed not a limit

Surely only in our dreams by banning Miss Daisy in her Atoz thingummy - or are they getting Euro-pimped too?
I wonder if the perceived “problem” will shift from being impatient car drivers taking unnecessary risks in order to squeeze past the trucks doing 40mph, to it being impatient lorryists taking the same unnecessary risks in order to squeeze past the Nissan Micras doing 48mph?
A Nissan Micra doing 48? You’re a tad optimistic aren’t you?

Scant chance of chancing it in my gutless* pram - which effectively gives a container wagon the Micra and my 13 meter trailer combo an extended obstacle to risk-it past, although I’ll bust a gut other than fully stop to let him do so
- I’m avoiding submitting the actual BHP since a) it’s embarrassing , and, b) could too easily identify the fleet and cost me
