hi all,
vale transport, were a firm i remember very well.when my parents ran our family business at stormy down in the early 70’s vale were based there.vale later moved to village farm industrial estate in pyle.in what is now cbl plant hire’s yard.next door to vale at pyle was argosy transport, the owners of these two transport companies were brothers, their other brother is still in haulage to this day, john raymond.this seddon photo is very large,i have scanned it as best i can  .thanks to my good friend mike raymond, for the pictures.vale was owned by mike’s father dai raymond.

this may be?the old tondu brickworks.

hi pete, vale was ■■■■ raymond mate not dai.he was argosy.i was at stormy in the 70s. i knew ron and john of j&m.glyn morgan was there to.we were a good crowd of boys up there on stormy.do you remember the high water tank with [silent was here painted on it] well phelps did that and silent was me.phelps was tom fats son and a fitter.i dont know mike raymond that i can think of.i remember jonathon jrs son but didnt know dais kids.my old man marlais jenkins worked for dai years ago when he had a couple of mandators and an albion clydesdale.i used to go everywhere with him.reg wacket and tony baker were there to.old names from the past.i was with ■■■■ when we moved to pyle.how times have changed now.

hi jinks@62,
sorry,my mistake, you are right,■■■■ raymond owned vale transport.the photos were lent to me by my old mate mike raymond.i think he would be the baby you mentioned  he’s 42 now.i think you are also right about that photo being stormy down,i hadn’t thought of that  my father (dave cooper) told me today that a fella called tiny drove the seddon for vale.i can remember the water tank  ,i spent my childhood on stormy down in the 70’s.
regards andrew.

hi andrew.yes now you mention it i think it was mike.■■■■ had two boys before him and was jealous me and the mrs had a girl.yes she,s 40 this year and was born in 71.i remember tiny.he was a big bloke.from down sandfields i think.when i first started there was only a few there and he was one.dennis lang worked in the garage.we had a couple of oxford boys too on changeover.we used to run mainly midlands from down here.londons were the changeover boys runs.all nice new gear there and all looked after.jeff person started in the garage and he was a good boy.spray them, panel beat and mend the mechanics.they dont make many like that these days.irish martin greavy was there too in the garage.he liked his guinness.good bunch altogether.my first job up the road except for the odd trip when i was with blue line.shunted for holloway brothers first with the big A and used to take the unit home as she was taxed as a car and could only pull mt trailers or go solo.same type of seddon in the picture of vales but only had a leyland 400 in her.loaded in the abbey and now and again i,d go down bagan bay to load pipes for scotland and leave the trailer there.£28 quid a week i was paid there and that was tidy money then.tho they used to get me to work 7 days as they didnt have to pay me extra.i wanted the experience to get a tidy job on the road.ade.

one of vale’s very smart atki’s.

hi pete 359,i had all the 5s with vale.she was my first wagon when i started there.vale was owned by richard raymond not david as said earlier.the boys were gwyn and steve and he had a new baby when i was with him.i was there for a few years and ■■■■ was ok tho we didnt see eye to eye allways.we were next to j+m at stormy untill he had a yard on village farm next to dai his brother with argosy.we brought all our own bricks down x london brick and unloeded them by hand as was nearly allways the case everywhere then.john muir had the 4s in the other picture.we both had bran new motors later on.220L and 330L.all the tackle with ■■■■ was A1.trailers and units.i actually went to atkis to fetch two new units at walton le dale preston.one at a time that is.he was so fussy that they were all to look identical.long gone days.good old ■■■■ i was with him when my daughter was born in 1971. its time i packed it in now ive been at it too long.ade.

by the way,i think that picture of the4s was taken on stomy? i,m sure the chimney in the back ground was pulled down.i seem to remember it being there on stormy down.there was an old firing range there too.ill gone now.

Nice one Andrew. 30years ago ink still wet on my class 1, I stopped in at Hick’s looking for a start to run over the water. Iirc it was Terry who told me come back in 3 years when I had some experience, even though I had been on the spanners with my cousin for 5 years and driven and loaded everything from Transits at 17, TK Bedfords at 18 to an F88 at 21 all flatbeds on general haulage. Oh well !
I hear they are still successful which is good news.

Regards Paul

I’ve heard the recovery sections ‘best kept working truck’ award went to this Swansea based truck, quite an acheivement in view of the quality kit at the show.
