That Atki involved in the accident at Glyn neath was it STG 769F ? It could have been the same one that overturned at Whitney on wye around christmas in the early 1970s hauling Metal box can lids !
Can anyone also remember the accident on the A4069 Swansea valley road near Abercrave , another Atki think it was NTX 783E overturned with drums of nickel from Liverpool for the mond works at Clydach . Its load then was worth 80 000k around 20 ton of, it Think that Atki was rebuilt . regards kk

my uncle said it was jinxed no joint driver wanted it joints did have some ex forces mandators andrew would know better than me i worked for joints shunting in the abbey

hi all,
you have got me thinking now kk :bulb: ,what you have written sounds about right. joints did have an atki nicked from east london in the 60’s,my father was there.the old man and carl davies?were on a night out in digs near dagenham.the unit “went walkies” over night.i will ask my father tomorrow about the fatal accident,if it was in the 60’s he was working there then.the mandator in my picture was i think ucy 908n?she was ex royal navy,i think a.s. griffiths had the sister to it?
regards andrew.

There was a lot of bad accidents involving South Wales lorries in the Whitney on Wye area in the 60’s and 70’s.Also a fatal accident under the old railway bridge which was near the Toll bridge, which involved one of Sharples of Eardisley and one of Oliver Hart’s bulk coal lorry or Kendricks, resulting in Sharples driver getting killed. The Whitney road was straightened and Whitney on Wye bypassed with the disused railway bridge being demolished in the 70’s.
Cheers Dave.

hi all,
john raymond’s roundabout, many years ago .the then new livery was on the 400’s that were starting to replace dozens of borderer’s.

this photo of etx 993k has been posted on here before.out of the maybe? hundreds of atki’s from the fine john raymond fleet, etx 993k is,as far as i am aware the only one left.now owned by atki.guru tony henwood.thanks for the pictures tony.

etx, with channel island plates, seen here after returning to the mainland, after working in gurnsey.

etx 993k as she is now.

hi dave , didn’t notice your earlier post re the tragic accident at witney . it wasn’t kendricks involved , it was one of callahans from buxton . some smartarse from manchester who was going to show us how to do the job !! i was actually in griffs digs at winforton when the news came through . it got all us regular coal drivers a bad name , he came out of it lightly , but i think he got done for causing death by dangerous driving . dave

Hi Dave,
My mistake, all these years I had it in my mind it was either Hart or Kendrick.I knew it was a bulk coal wagon.I remember Callahan’s,also remember the Sam Longson eigt leggers screaming up and down that road with Foden and Atkinson tippers.
Winforton cafe was a good one,did use it sometimes, even though it’s close to home.
Cheers Dave.

my mate stan evans loading timber for gap european in northern italy around 15 years ago.

Dai, Uskmouth could be a pain to tip in, if they allowed you to tip on the stockpile ok, but otherwise que up to tip through the floor into a hopper/belt. Newport docks to Uskmouth x 6 daily if I remember 1989 ish. There used to be lines of trucks everywhere, Newport docks probably the worst, full and empty lorries sharing one weighbridge, patience was a virtue.

Who is the lad in dark blue standing nearest to the tailboard, anyone know  It’s a face that rings a bell from when I used to load out of Ryans in Newport or Cardiff docks in the 80s.
