one of joint’s 92m scania’s.coming into hirwaun, driven by roger gardiner (rip).

This takes me back a bit, is this the junction heading south from Penderyn, and the old main road through town?
It looks like Maldwyn Davies garage in the background, before he moved to the corner of the Rhigos mountain road near Tower colliery.

Regards Paul

hi paul,
yes, spot on with the location  .not that long ago,i would see maldwyn davies out on the road or usually at the swansea show.he loved the f88 i had,the colours i used were very similar to his own fleet colours.
regards andrew.

another of the many classic trucks that i would love to own/restore.

how about this for living accomodation?owned by my good mate kevin smith.kevin is a retired joiner and the timberwork inside is first rate.the tailgate is powered and when closed up,it just looks like a very clean sheeted tandem axle bulker  ,brilliant.

this ex norwegian fire brigade crew cab f88 was for sale.

i used to see this peterbilt 359 pulling fridges around the uk.she now has a moffat mounty/demount body.

two of the classic trucks owned by my mate lee herbert.

josh herbert trucking

these two 8 wheelers are,to me at least 100% perfectly restored and truly represent the once mighty brs.

another of those over length and over here funny yankee things  .

hi all,
had a brilliant time at the 2011 season opener at malvern.this event is going from strength to strength.when myself, danny thomas and my mate stan got there yesterday evening there were dozens of others all ready there and the usual diesel/■■■■ up was in full swing,so it seemed rude not to join in the party spirit  .this morning, when sober .stan and i parked our trucks inside the shed as part of the indoor steel boys display.paul john, these photos are for you mate,to keep you in touch with the uk truck show scene.
regards andrew.

Andrew, thank you. What a great mix of trucks. I have the greatest respect for yourself, Neil (mechanic 77) and everyone who makes these shows possible. The amount of work involved and cost, shows tremendous commitment.
Hopefully, through exposure on this site, more people will attend the shows and appreciate the talent of people involved in road transport.

Cheers Paul.

hi paul as amatter of intrest did you have your own truck or drive for somebody i subbed for mc donalds ,i bought 1633 merc rth 543y off joints did a bit of subbing with them then went off on bulk work also did work for ryan s before getting in with wimpeys running out of cornelly quarry running dust to bsc.

Hi Martyn, the ERF was mine on contract hire. Originally I was subbing to Glyn Burrows of Merthyr by day running coal from Glyn Neath to Aberthaw power station. At night I had my own work running out of Bristol fruit market to Torquay and Plymouth. I subbed to Ryans normally Onllwyn to Cardiff or Newport docks.
After a while I secured day work in Avonmouth, and quit the coal. I was living in Cardiff so the commute was not to bad in my diesel Astra van.

Cheers Paul

hi kk,

hi smallcoal,
i have heard about that accident,it happened in the late 60’s or early 70’s.on the old a465 near glyneath.joint driver john onions was killed when he ran off the side of the road and rolled over and landed upside down in the river.my father and joint’s shrewsbury foreman cliff ashley have told me about it.sorry no pics.
because of an unfortunate clash of dates i couldn’t attend clff’s 80th birthday party in shrewsbury today.though it was very nice of his family to invite me and my parents.happy birthday mate and my old man still won’t tell me how he lost his teeth ■■■■■■ up with you on a night out in liverpool 45 years ago  mike howells has kindly sent me some photos from the party  ,mike can you email me please,as i don’t know how to get photos from my blackberry device thingy
