sammyopisite:
Pete 359 there is no wonder that Butlers tanker looks a bit close if you climbed into the passenger seat to take that pic of Harrisons wagon or were you in a left ■■■■■■

That’s a great photo of Sid’s Scammell and like me,sammyopisite will remember seeing that motor many a time
What happened to P.J.Butler from Oldbury, they didn’t hang about on the road.

one of jr’s many f10’s pulling an early coil liner.

this was owned by a cardiff transport subbie.

i first met bob williams from porthcawl when he drove an f88 for j&m transport on stormy down.many years later bob became an owner driver with wimpey, running out of south cornelly quarry.

Hi Chris/ pete and all. That Scammell was’nt the only one i think there was maybe 8 of them. Theres one on the steam circuit that pulls a living van
that one is painted Green and they took the middle axel off (PITTY) The chap was talking to me about the probelms he had buying the damed thing.
I think they settled at a price and handed over the money!!! You can’nt have it till next week was the answer.then there was a problem with a screen!!!
thats ok we’ve got a spare one. only £££s to you, and there was a highspeed dif I’am saving them for a project. The chap called another day and (Peter■■?)
Harrison said I thought you wanted a dif the chap said yes and a dif was given to him free. Theres a site somewhere on google S Harrison and son and theres a few pickys in Harrisons yard and there is a row of 3 axel Scammells they converted.
John

The green one on the show circuit was new to Gilbraith Transport, Accrington and was sold to Harrisons where it gained the pusher axle.

Since this is a thread about South Wales hauliers, here are several of them in one photograph

And now the lorries…

There is a green one being rallied with a living van, and which is FTC 943F. It was new to Gilbraith Transport in Accrington on general haulage, with a 680 Leyland. It was bought out of Harrisons, and with a 180 Gardner in it, although I’ve never seen a pic of it working with Harrisons. It’s only a 4x2 now, and I don’t know if it’s ever been any different.

240 Gardner, that photo is a real blast from the past. Most of those could not of been impressed with what they saw as only a few ran Atkinsons. John Raymond being probably the biggest operator, and one of a few still in business today. Great stuff.
Cheers Paul

Hi bernard,
Those ERF’s of ELY transport look really smart with the silver colour, give your mate Malcom a big pat on the back for those, great pics bernard.
Cheers Dave.

Nice pic’s Bernard, and Malcolm.I used to run into Ely Transport boys whilst on a regular trip from Brittany to Newcastle. I can not remember the name of the services, but they were loaded for home and an early start the next day. At the time they were running Volvo F10/12s around 1990.
Do,you or Malcolm remember another Cardiff haulier who ran grey F86 dropside tippers on distance work, usually coal north and colliery supplies back. I think the last name was Morgan?.
regards Paul

the following seven images are amongst the last j&m photos that i ever took.fju 979v was bought second hand, was run by an owner driver from leicstershire previousley hughie hill? i think, was featured running down to italy in truck magazine l.d.d. article with gerry holmes’ k100 kenworth, fju was a very high spec.transconti.had a 350 ■■■■■■■ and a 13 speed overdrive fuller.

spu 489w,i took this photo when all the j&m assets were decked, chained ready to leave to be sold to the highest bidder, june 1985.
