South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

Hi Andrew,I thought TS Rees packed it in early 80’s. Wasn’t it their 8 wheel Scammels that Davies Bro’s bought ?.

here’s one of evans and williams, taken in carmarthen truckshow, they were a very smart fleet, yes as i am aware mansel davies did take them over.t.s. rees are very much still with us,they own several very large quarries and run probably 5 trucks?

here is one of evans and williams’ scania’s

short bros. plant hire were at one time the biggest privatley owned plant hire company in europe.they later became brambles? and as far as i am aware have now gone.this foden was used by them for many years.

G’day,
Nice pic of the Evans and Williams Scania 141,I didn’t know they ran one of them. I never realy saw a lot of their motors down in Devon, where I grew up.
But I did snap this tidy looking FL10 parked up in Tiverton,Devon,Aug 1992. I always thought they had a great colour sceam, very Welsh.

I thought I’d stick this one up,has this mob been on here yet? They had quite a big fleet at one point didn’t they?

Are Sheddick still around? Taken April 1994 at a services on the Welsh end of the M4.
Cheers Jamie

Dave the Renegade:
Hi Andrew,
I remember Glyn John lorries, can’t remember the colour, were they green, used to see them around a lot, just can’t recall the colour .
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave
I used to see them a lot in Newport docks years ago. I seem to remember the last one’s I saw being silver, mind you the old memories not what it was

cheers

John.

Hi JAMIE

Sheddicks were taken over by Norbert a few years ago. I did read somewhere not very long ago I think it may have been on here, that they had started up again.

cheers

John.

Theres now a Euro commercials Mercedes dealership where Sheddicks place used to be.

as far as i am aware, deathstrangler bought sheddick’s around 93/94?as mechanic 77 says they have left newport now.i believe they have grown the salvesen side of the business considerably.altitude mentioned seeing silver lorries?i can only presume that they are rhys davies logistics?

Hi Andrew are you still talking to me or not? Mention of the frenchmen reminded me that around the same time 93/94 their MD Ray ? cant remember his last name approached me to ask if I would consider selling out to ND but my health was OK at that time so I declined . Shortly after that his wife died suddenly and he resigned but he was decent kind of bloke even if he did work for the frogs . I think I might still have the letter he wrote to me at the time somewhere in the archives ! Bewick.

Yeah pete it was Rhys Davies I ment, when I said I thought they were silver.

cheers

John.

Hi everyone.a couple more cardiff transport for you.

Hi bernard,
Great pics, were you a Cardiff Transport driver, its a shame all these old ftrms have gone, they all had their own colours and livery. A lot of the big logistic firms nowadays just run white lorries with a brief name and a bit of contact detaii, same with Stobart there’s are green, but apart from the different names, not that interesting.
Cheers Dave.

ofcourse i am bewick.on line banter is harmless fun and i have rhino skin anyway,so don’t worry on that score.got to say bewick…it’s good in these stupid politically correct times too hear you using the term frogs!    ,well done.keep up the good work bernard mate.still looking for my missing albums,i would guess that there are another 40-50 in the depths of my attic.

long before scania ever thought of the longline or volvo the fh xxl.a british manufacturer designed and built this beast.seen here in the summer of 1989 in well known heavy haulier leicster heavy haulage’s livery she was new to tony morgan 36 coychurch road bridgend.i remember looking inside it when new, remember this was 1983/4.just one of the many impressive former tony morgan motor’s.

when i hear some of the modern drivers complain that they don’t want to drive a truck because it hasn’t got a wood effect dash or the mp3 player isn’t up to standard,it makes me think of sid harrison’s fine machines, this was one of his 38 tonners seen on the m1.

Hi andrew and dave, great contribution to this thread from yourself andrew, really enjoying seeing all the oid photos,Hi dave worked at cardiff transport at 14 washing lorrys on saturday,16-21 worked in the yard, passed my test at 21 on a thursday lunchtime, sunday ran trailers loaded with fertiliser for west wales down to joints yard port talbot,in to the abbey and drag long distance loads back up to the yard, was very lucky to have gone straight out on the road at 21 looking back, also would go away with some of the old hands on school holidays, good memories, was involved with ct for 17 years, you mention the colour scheme dave,i saw some of those old mans go in to the paint shop they had mid day friday for a complete respray, sunday 11.00 the same lorry would be leaving 2/3 drops scotland.

there is one particular large yard on village farm industrial estate in pyle.many years ago it was home to argosy transport which was owned by one of john raymond’s brothers, for many years after that it was home to p&o roadtanks, during the 1980’s these dafs were pictured there.it’s now an empty yard.

Hi andy,a couple more companys i dont think i have not seen mentioned,BW REES & SON CARDIFF general haulage & milk tankers, and there was a company i used to see in bryn gwyn works loading & some times on fertiliser drops but i think they only had a couple of lorrys D EVANS CARMARTHEN,i wonder if they have finished recently, have not seen their scania around for a while, similar colours to mansel davies, both well presented fleets.

Pete 359 there is no wonder that Butlers tanker looks a bit close if you climbed into the passenger seat to take that pic of Harrisons wagon or were you in a left ■■■■■■
