G’day
Thanks for the info on the rail bridge fellas. My old man used to work in Llangadog and spent a long time in the Red Lion.
I found another N A James pic, taken in their yard in July 07,they had another tidy F10, a C reg tractor, but it was in the shed getting tyres fitted,so sadly no photo. They both look good for 20 plus years on the road. I also found what was left of the Atki shunter, not much, just a squashed rear cab pannel.
Cheers Jamie

Hi Jamie,
The bridge where the train tragedy in the 80’s,was just outside Llandovery. You can see the new bridge off the A40 about a mile from Llandovery on the left hand side as you head for Llanwrda. I think three people drowned including a young teenage lad returning to Llandovery college. It was after some very heavy rainfall in Wales, and the River Towy was in flood.
Cheers Dave.hi dave you are correct about the three people drowning but the location is wrong the accident happened near the village of llangadog at the bottom of the common near a farm called defanah when comeing from llandeilo towards llandovery as you go through the hamlet of manordeilo you can see the new bridge on the righthand side it is painted grey ianto
Hi ianto,
Thanks for putting me right on the bridge, have seen the one you are referring to. Travelled that road a lot over the years, saw them replacing the one nearer Llandovery, put two and two together, and came up with five. I travelled for three years to Pembroke twice a week, between 2002 and 2006,sometimes more, but was usually going like hell in my transit, except for through Manordielo and Rhosmaen, where they have the camera van.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Finn,
I do remember the Foden’s,but didn’t know who they belonged to. If you have any more, stick them on The Welsh Border thread. I’m struggling to get pics at the moment, due to not calling for them, also the weather is not favourable.
Cheers Dave.,
Pete 359, and Scooter1 was it ■■■■ Westcott who ran a bunch of 8 wheel Scammels out of Steetlys Quarry in Taffs Well, early eighties?.
Whilst we are in Taffs Well, does anyone remember,a guy who’s first name was Robert who ran a white and blue Scania 142 6x2 twin rear lift axle. It was a nice motor supplied and serviced by Telford trucks,on a F reg plate.
Mechanic77 thought it may of been bought by Cardiff International, does anyone remember this motor?.
Cheers Paul

top man fishflunk,my good mate bob beech tells me that ralph davies of cheltenham in his very early days bought an ex philip jones motor and that was the inspiration for his now instantly recognisable colour scheme.
regards andrew
Hi Pete 359, would that be the same Bob Beach that was salesman for Griffin Mill Volvo
cheers Fin
glyn s. john were are fairly large outfit during the 1970’s.they at that time had many transconti’s and f88’s.here’s an earlier foden.
a firm not mentioned yet are hicks of newport.they always have had a very smart fleet of modern vehicles, have traded succesfully for many years, during the 70’s they carried out many middle east runs, here’s one from the mid-80’s a very smart space cab daf,a real classic in my opinion.
Hi Andrew,
I remember Glyn John lorries, can’t remember the colour, were they green, used to see them around a lot, just can’t recall the colour .
Cheers Dave.

this is my 1983 peterbilt 359,taken at southampton dock on 16 october 2008.this was the very first time i ever saw this truck, several hours later when customs released her my mate kelvin powell and i loaded here onto one of kelvin’s low loaders and brought her home to wales for a full re build.note the blue flamed sunstrip which was one of the first things i removed as it made the view from the windscreen similar to looking through a letter box!
Hi Andrew,
Thats a big old moter, bet you wouldn’t get her into some of the tight spots, looking at ice road truckers a lot of the Kenworths on there have that same square front.
Cheers Dave.
