Nice picâs Bernard, and Malcolm.I used to run into Ely Transport boys whilst on a regular trip from Brittany to Newcastle. I can not remember the name of the services, but they were loaded for home and an early start the next day. At the time they were running Volvo F10/12s around 1990.
Do,you or Malcolm remember another Cardiff haulier who ran grey F86 dropside tippers on distance work, usually coal north and colliery supplies back. I think the last name was Morgan?.
regards Paul

Andrew, thankyou. You are spot on, the old a48,there was a big roundabout there and Morgans place was down in a dip to the right. I remember them working on a walking floor trailer, but donât know if they ever put any into service. Ivor D Morgan, thats the one.

when i hear some of the modern drivers complain that they donât want to drive a truck because it hasnât got a wood effect dash or the mp3 player isnât up to standard,it makes me think of sid harrisonâs fine machines, this was one of his 38 tonners seen on the m1.
Hi Andrew ! when I see shots of these old Scamells I can remember Moores Motors running one and it was driven by a big bloke who had a handle bar moustache and he wore a Deer stalker hat ,smoked a pipe like Sherlock Holmes as well. He had been sgt. major or something in the army . He ran down from Ayr with loads out of Scottish Stampings to the various vehicle builders. For some reason one of my younger brothers was well in with one of Moores owners ( Clellands) and he could allways get a load from Ayr !! Theyâed bang him on 7/8 ton of stub axles for Dunstable as he drove a 10 ton gross KE Bedford as teenager ! The rate wasnât so good though !! We also ran an ex Moores Atki in our early years â it was reg. no. KSD101F â â â â â â â 180/ZF/BDR it was a good reliable motor and ended its days as a local shunter . Regards Bewick

Question Andrew if you were the driver of the Joints motor how come you were able to take a shot of the Scamell out of the N/S window ? were you on auto pilot or parked up ? Keep your elbows in Bewick.
