Hi Haddy,
Quite right about Entress removing the badge of the front of the lorries,a strange thing to do,there must have been a pile of them, they would be a collecter piece now.
Cheers Dave.
1990 a fairly new man.
another for bernard.â â â â hopkinsâ man after this he had a bullnose scania, one of only two that they had.
as bubbleman wrote recently rosserâs of pontlliw ran some ancient aecâs to the very end.this one was ex cardiff brs, then rosserâs ran it for years,i think itâs being restored in lincs. now?
all of these rosser photos were taken by me in the summer of 1990.

pete 359:
mike had back loaded hay from lowestoft.
Cargo Van didnt do backloads but this was an exception. I picked up this load of hay for Llantwit Major from a farm near The Wash. If I recollect it was not far from a site that taught people to drive all sorts of large industrial equipment. When we handballed it off, my son David and I parked near the Llandow race circuit, climbed up the inside rails and had a good view of some races.
Hiya youâll need the strimmer out for a moment the grass might be a bit longer now these was taken years ago.
I was going ask if anyone knew where these are lying but there are no clues. Its Walters yard
I think the tin front was sold to a chap in Lincolnshire after he saw this photo. If you look on the right on one picture theres a Gardner 240 lying there.
John.
OH That picture pete has posted looks like the one Iâve just put on so are Walters and Rosser in the same yardâ â ?
The Red AEC cabs with a white roof look like ex Stone and Ogan (Derbyâs) if so David Ogan was my god farther.
John.

hello john,
yes, walters yard was where all my photoâs were taken back in 1990.walters are still trading, though as far as i am aware there are no more members of the rosser family left.they were all very old when i used to call and take pictures in the 80âs.i recall talking to one of their drivers in trostre one winter time and he had a bag of fishermanâs friends to keep him warm! legend has it that will. rosser once sent a driver home at 5.00 a.m.because he had come in too work too late!telling him âthat the best part of the day was over now boy!â during the 80âs they cleared the original yard and sold it for housing.they then moved up the road which is where those photos were taken.as far as i am aware everything has long since been cleared.i recall being on the 1999 bournemouth to bath run and there was an aec 8 wheeler there restored in rosserâs colours.it did look magnificent, however whilst i donât want to seem pedantic it was to shiny and clean to look like a real rosser wagon.
regards andrew

I remember Stone and Ogan John, they worked for Clay Cross Pipes and ran mostly AECs
And Pete you are right about a restored Rosser AEC not looking right. When I got a MK5 MM I thought I was in heaven and owd Rosser was still running about with the MK3,I can picture them now on the old A48 trundling about, happy days
Chris I was going to mention that Clay cross pipes on your Staveley note.I used to go through Staveley to the M1 Well to that colliery just before canânt
remember the name was it Rennishawâ â ?. Any howe was Staveley pipes close to Staveley chemicalsâ â ?. Yes Stone and Ogan ran AECâs for years on the pipe
job and then turned to Merceedes. They also had a good contract with Bass at Burton. S and O was brothers in laws and started with yanky Dodges IICR.
I said Dodges not dodgyâs HA HA.
John.
Pete 359 It would have been 2000 when i took the photoâs in Walters yard.Iâd like to get all the AEC bits and make one good one.
I showed my photoâs to Roy Melland (RIP) and he purchesed a V8 Mandator sort of in bits but complete and that 8 legger
Walters delivered them to Skegness. Not long after Roy had got the big C he saw the doctor and had gone in about 3 weeks .
I think I saw the V8 in the same condition last year for sale at Gilders. In a mag. I 've just rooted it out I think it was ÂŁ1000
with a spare engine and a mountain of bits. Dose anyone know where the V8 is now please. If so let me know. Thanks.
John

It could have been Renishaw John or it could have been Ireland pit, there were so many in that area. The history of Staveley goes back years but it was originally called Stanton and Staveley where they made cast iron pipes as they did at Stanton near Ilkeston.I canât remember when the iron works closed, maybe in the 60s but the chemical side took off and was always a busy place.IIRC it was part owned by BSC and the NCB,bit hazy about that.I think Clay Cross pipes were eventually known as Biwater. If Flatman is reading this heâll put me right
I ought to know more, god knows I spent enough time in there
Dont know if the fatherin law was ringing on his mobile for a back load in this photo .Powells transport ,Sutton St Nicholas Hereford later became Berringtons & then Shepperds
That would be the same Shepherd from Sheffield then? Ran maroon/red Atkis and AECs IIRC.

The pipe works at Staveley was going a good while after the '60âs, possibly into the eighties. We used to take foundry limestone into Biwaterâs at Clay Cross, sadly that has all disappeared now and Stanton Works isnât far behind.
Pete.
my good mate john ward, who passed away very suddenly in sept. 07 after changing a wheel on one of his trucks.john was a proper lorry man who was very well respected on the show circuit aswell as by many other hauliers, his business was his life.on the weekends in the summer he loved to go out and about in one of his many classic trucks.this v8 mandator was originally owned by alcan in cross keys, they ran it for a while then replaced them with a fleet of 110 scaniaâs.i think this v8 is now in ireland?
