here’s a couple for scooter1.billy burton,s family have run lorries for more than 40 years.his son nigel has a scania artic these days.billy’s constructor was caught on south cornelly ind.est. in 1988.
thanks for them mate , always good to see an 8 legger tipper
here’s some old photo’s of j&m transport from stormy down, the first image is their fleet line-up in the summer of 1975.the berliet on the end was a demonstrator.
sorry about the poor quality.
odw 118r was the last f88 that j&m ever bought, they had it cheap as it had been left on the docks and forgotten about for a long time, even though it was new my father had to do major rust repairs in the cab when he went to paint it in j&m’s livery.my old mate from school richard evans is hanging off the mirror,he now lives in the north east of england and drives a daf xf for the royal mail.
one of several tilts bought for the middle east trips.they all had cavernous belly tanks in them.
sdw 903 was j&m’s shunter in the abbey,it weighed around 3 tonnes and was ideal for weighing off the heavy loads of coil that would then be delivered by an f88.sdw was an ex steel company of wales atkinson unit with a gardner 5lw? 120,i think.
after the f88’s,j&m began buying ford transcontinentals, around the same time a chap called tony grimshaw formed a company called gap forwarding (gap was philip anthony grimshaw backwards)mainly doing work for ford’s then new bridgend engine plant to germany.
j&m driver ian underhill stands by his transconti.
lvx 939v was bought second hand by j&m.she was a ford demonstrator and can be seen in many ford adverts in truck magazine from the late 70’s.driven by ward jones whose father and uncle owned j&m.
lvx is seen here after returning from delivering concrete beams to the m56 motorway in cheshire.
lvx is seen coupled upto a york bonus loader which when used converted a 4 by 2 unit into a 6 by 2.
at costain’s bridgend depot,now a tesco.beams for bangor.

Only trouble was she was doing 3 Londons a week and didn’t stand around long enough for the shutter to open !! Regards Buick .

i was asked recently what had happened to sal 513r. g.e. keedwell bought it from one of his brothers.seen here at keedwell’s pyle yard in 1996.this rare beast is still (mostly) at the rear of the yard in “kit form”.i believe one of the few original hht’s built is being restored somewhere? anyone know anything??
Dave the Renegade:
Does anyone remember the south wales hauliers, such as Entress, Morfa Transport, Blue Line, Slver Roadways etc
I can remember Entress Transport well we used to fill up with diesel in their yard when I drove for Perfects of Gt. Yarmouth. They removed all the badges from their trucks, I don’t know why because everyone knew what make they were-Maggie Duetz,F86 and F7 Volvos, Dafs etc. I used to go for a pint with some their lads in Wakefield, one was called Jesse, a good lad, and I think he lived at Brecon. Another was called Lenny, I can’t remember any more names because this must be close on 30 years ago. Happy days.
