Hi martin, port talbot steelworks used to be known as the abbey,if i remember correctly by one of the canteens in the abbey there were stones that were fenced off that was part of the abbey,i was told the story by one of the older drivers but can not remember,i am sure andrew could tell us a bit more, hope this is of some help to you.

Hi everyone, what a great thread this is seeing all the old south/west wales fleets, great pictures by andrew,scooter1 and eeverybody else, some more of cardiff airways as anderw likes to refer to them as,the first picture/advert was taken at bsc llanwern hot mill

Photo of ■■■■ hopkins lorry when he was on cardiff transport,as andrew says on previous page,he was well known for looking after his lorrys,i can not take credit for this photo as it was purchased at show.

hi boys, yes bernard,as you said “the abbey” is the large steel works clearly visible from the m4 at margam and port talbot.here’s somemore for scooter1,i know he loves his penllyne tippers.they also did steel as well in the late 80’s as can be seen.as i recall this foden was the first artic and therefore the first 38 tonner they had.she had a 14 litre 350 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ a tool for her day!

OLD IRON LUNG S.A.400 WAS THE PENLLYNE SHUNTER IN “THE ABBEY”.
