South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

…well this my all time favorite… the year 1980, a brand new ,never carried a load constructor, taken with me brand new camara…i was 10 !!! and over the moon. grew up with this fleet and have very very happy and fond memories and dearly miss malcolm who left us at a young age. if anybody got any info or possible wherabouts of “ftx” then id certainly love to get hold of her. thanks all

A slightly differant Mansel Davies picture.

Tough looking heavy recovery truck from the valleys.

thanks neil, love the look of that foden.this is another of sid evans’ 112,in germany with a gap european flat.

davies bros. from south cornelly had a hard worked fleet of 8 wheelers, they had as many scrapped “on the bank” as they had on the road.their workshop never had doors so that they didn’t have to pay any rates, they never! bought new parts and always made use of a big thick paint brush and a pot of green paint when painting the fleet.they sold out to uk waste for a fortune in the summer of 1992,making dai + jeff davies millionaires.

they replaced the scammell’s with man’s.this one was put straight to work and given the yard brush green at a later date.

Hi Andrew,
They sound like a mate of mine, run lean and mean, is his motto  sounds as if it paid off for them.
Cheers Dave.

spencer chilcott behind the wheel of this new f88.i think? this j&m f88 was the one that was written off in a terrible accident on the old heads of the valley road, their warrington shunter had left ebbw vale loaded for the north west,he somehow got lost and the truck ran away down a very steep bank and went into some trees,he actually had his wife and 3 kids with him,who as i am told jumped clear, though he was trapped behind the wheel and was killed.

after alun griffiths sold his f89,he bought scania’s and for the next 25 plus years they became the mainstay of his fleet.

seabourne transport of port talbot, would be in my opinion the oldest haulier still pulling steel out of the abbey.

in the early 80’s shillibier haulage of pyle ran this marathon.

this is for scooter1,jr’s old yard became tony morgans, sorry about the quality.

own571y… new i 83, she had a 290 rolls in here , which was quite a fair lump at the time for an 8 legger
