Hi ianto,
I remember Trevor Davies lorries well, haven’t any pics sorry, they were based at Llanwrda just down the A40 from Llandovery. I used to talk to one of their drivers Duke,on the CB,sadly he was killed in a moterbike accident after Trevor Davies finished,he drove for Owen James from Llandovery up until his accident.
Cheers Dave.
Any photos of S.Protheroe, from Swansea area IIRC?
hi all,
the very well turend out mainly man fleet of kbhs are based near cross hands.the managing director is andrew thomas, the next three pictures are of andrew thomas’ first lorries.
when j&m driver alun griffiths decided to go it alone in 1977 he bought this well used 8 speed 240 hp f88,my father painted the cab and alun became a j&m subbie.
this was what alun bought next,an ex-cardiff international f89,a real flying machine!i used to love going out in this as i thought everyone would think i was driving it.
ex j&m driver chris childs went as did everyone from j&m to jr’s in the summer of 85,seen here in one of jr’s 2025 mercs.i am told chris drives trucks in canada now.
b948 bwn was the first joints truck i drove after i passed my hgv in 1986,i remember going to fords at halewood with a load of coil and thinking how powerfull it was, recently 23 years later we painted an atego 6 wheeler tipper with the same power as old b948.
b804 aep,a gutless bombproof 2025 merc.these units did incredible trouble free mileages for joints, but god were they under powered at 38 ton.seen here when i loaded parts of a large dragline that was being dismantled and sent to a foster yeoman quarry near oban (that was only accesible by sea),another storey.where i took this photo (wimpey mining at ffos llas) is now a state of the art racecourse.
after gutless and reliable,we have gutless and unreliable.d781 kkg ,long serving shrewsbury driver warwick gittins had this truck new in 1986,within 1 week it had dropped a valve whilst ticking over on the weighbridge at charlie brown’s steelstockholders in the midlands smashing the engine to pieces, after a rebuild it went back to work and from then on it got worse.one of two scania 92’s that joint’s had,but not for long!
joint’s ran several f86’s over the years.
