South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

Great pic’s by everyone. Tony, your pic’s go way back, tremendous. I think my favourite would be the Atki Borderers in the old livery parked along the fence at
the roundabout. As a kid the highlight of a trip down to Porthcawl would be to stop and count the units. The red, white and black was not as good a colour scheme.

here’s one of isaac caswell’s atki’s loaded with scrap for ebbw vale.caswell’s worked out the steel mill at ebbw vale for many years.they ceased trading around 15 years ago and the steel works at ebbw vale, which was one of the oldest in the u.k. closed around 7 years ago.

Hi Andrew,
Thats a Hereford number on that Atkinson. I drove a Bedford TK BCJ805B, back in the 60’S.
Cheers Dave.

Thanks for the A series Ford picture Andrew, I can see some inspiration for your Peterbilt there.

Now then, amongst all your JRT pics, do you have one of ETX 990K, an 8LXB-engined Atkinson Leader tractor?

I’ve seen a very poor photo of it with a subsequent owner, and was surprised because I didn’t that Raymond’s had had a Leader. Borderer ETX 993K is in preservation, by the way.
