I think you may be right. That was a “modern” cafe curnock compared with the Airport,Oakamoor and Tree.I remember that their yard foreman was a bugger for moving you out of the road if he didn’t like where you parked.

here we have a very rare south wales machine.entress transport from swansea were a huge firm when i was a kid in the 1970’s,they ran a very large number of f86 volvo’s,prior to that they had a very early vabis and a couple of early maggie duetz’s,this one is loading channel island tomatoes at weymouth dock.

A couple more of Entress Transport.I used to fill up at their Llansamlet depot.

thanks for posting those chris.entress as i recall never recovered from the 1979 steel strike?the last new trucks i remember them with were sleeper cab volvo f7’s.as i remember gowerton iron and steel closed and overnight entress lost a large amount of their work,i am told by present ta members that bill entress was a very active ta member way back when.

Hi Andrew & Chris,
Entress had a lot of drivers from this area working for them, back in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Roberts of Knighton had a lot of their Daf’s off them, when they packed up.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave and Pete.
The last time I was in their yard would have been 1978 and they had trailer loads of baled scrap in there,a lot of which used to go to Sheffield.I don’t know whether they ran a night trunk on that job. There used to be an old Leyland Octopus in a corner with bits of engine and grearbox parts on it,similar to the one in that photo.I remember when there was a shortage of diesel sometime in the 70s.I went in their yard one saturday morning and even though they were scratting themselves they let me have 10 gallons.I then went round to Calor Transport near Baglan and they were the same, scratting, but they let me have 10 gallons as well.I must have run on fumes for the last few miles into Sheffield

Good pic’s, it’s good to look past some of the truck’s, like there are no double yellow parking lines, no traffic etc. I noticed the forks loading the Maggi it takes alot of believing that in the early 70’s you’d go to a customer and if they had a forktruck you’d be surprised and very happy. At one time of my driving career i’d load paving flags out of Hulland Ward to Peterborough area, load 10 000 bricks and some times unload Mansfield area getting back nr Ashbourne all the unloading 2x 20 ton was by hand. Then wow another load of flags sitting ready for the next day. Yes i know alot of you have done the same its just a reminder.
John

Roberts of knighton also had one of these early magirus deutz. Unfortunately this poor photo is the only one we have found of it.

Gordon Roberts bought all of the daf’s and some banana shaped trailers from Entress. People in Knighton thought he had gone upmarket when the daf’s arrived from Swansea but the Roberts drivers and mechanics said they were rougher than the old Borderers they replaced.

three ex Entress daf 2300’s

gordon roberts had a house in porthcawl (my home town)a good friend of mine’s father used to play golf with him regularly as they were both members of the very select royal porthcawl golf club.i remember roberts transport with very early daf 95’s,then they sold up around 1988-89-ish?i seem to recall a yard in landore swansea.

it’s amazing what you learn.i didn,t even know entress had daf’s until i read you’r comment dave, here’s another of entress’s f86’s nicely sheeted and ready to roll.

Hi Andrew,
One of my best mates drove for Entress, was told to move to Swansea, which he did,had a bad accident loading at alcan at Swansea, several years later after Entress had finished, whilst driving for someone else. Entress ran ERF’s years ago. I remember going by there yard on the way to Llanelli to deliver to Thysen, before the M4 was finished.
Cheers Dave.

hi dave, sorry to hear that about you’r mate, entress’ yard at birchgrove is still there and is almost the same as when they left it nearly 30 years ago!here is one of raymond’s gardner powered atki’s.

Anybody got any photos of W.G.Davies.They had a yard at Morriston or Llandore and had an immaculate fleet. They did run some Crusaders in the 70s but also AECs.A.E.Evans rented a bit of their yard.I lost touch when I came off tankers so don’t know what happened to them.

Roberts of Knighton ran out of their yard in later years,a driver from Kington drove for them, had a nice brand new Atki, green colour.
Cheers Dave.
