Actualy Andrew, it was Phillipes brother Nick, along with Gerard Hobbs, and Paul Marsh. Phillipe was not working in the business at that time, he had a restaurant in Cowbridge. I was getting ready to emigrate to the States, so I came off the road and took the position of truck rental manager in Cardiff for the last 6 mths. That was 18 yrs ago, so alot has changed since. A few mths later I believe they closed the transport side down, after having a trailer full of lambs
burnt over in France.I must say that their father Gabe was the best boss I ever had, a true proferssional and gent. Last I heard both sons were working in or taken over Gullivers Travels Self Drive and added depots in Gloucester and Exeter.
Good memories, Paul
here’s a couple from the 80’s,this 1635 of blueline transport was fairly new when i took this shot in the trailer park of “the abbey” around 1986.
taken @ the old ross services northbound in the winter of 1987.coil for the midlands, for a change!
one of john raymond’s first f10’s.taken at woodhall services in 1985 loaded with coil for grimsby and driven by steve everett.
now for something completely different, this is a shot of my 1989 f16 that i restored 5 years ago (after i sold my f88),seen here in glencoe on the road to fort william in september 2006.
Andrew, once again your F16 looks superb. You are a true truck enthusiast, and craftsman. How did you ever part with them?. I had a 1600 E and MK 2 RS 2000 custom, which I sold and regret it still today.I followed project Peterbilt,on B.L.B. so I saw the hard work you put into your restoration. Great stuff.
thanks paul, that’s really good of you to say that.i am constantly amazed by the number of people who go on the blog.
Hi Andrew,
Thats a really nice lorry, that F16 of yours, also a lovely shot of it ,have you still got it
