hi bewick, yeh you have got a point there mate, some of joints tri-axles were from the early 70’s and had been converted in house by there very talented welder tony “teflon” millom.they were worked hard on the scrap.this is the f88 i had after my a series erf that i mentioned last night. taken when my mate lance biscombe and i were parked together at chippenham truckstop, she was ex midlands brs and when new used to run tyres down to france.it was unusual in 1974 for brs to have sleeper cabs as in those militant times the unions were very much against them.

hi dave, thank you.yes i sold that erf in june 2000 to ken thomas wisbech (now gone)in order to fund the restoration of my f88…now this was a south wales landmark, sadly raymond’s have moved just up the road and who could blame them with the offer they had.for as many years as i can remember waterton roundabout in bridgend was known by everyone as john raymonds roundabout.

What a great thread revival this is.I spent a lot of time in South Wales when on tankers in the late 60s/early 70s.Most of the coking plants like Nantgarw,Bedwas,Cwm and GKN Eastmoors. Also Bitmac in Llanwern,Port Talbot Chemicals,BP Baglan Bay and BP Llandarcy. 3M at Gorseinon was a regular drop, not far from Gwynne Bowen’s yard.If anybody has got any photos of Barworth Haulage who worked in and out of Llanwern,Coastal Roadways or Wincanton who both worked out of Baglan I’d love to see them. Also James Hemphill had a driver down there loading styrene for rail shipment to Stalybridge.
It was one of Coastal Roadways drivers who showed me the back way to Baglan from Craven Arms, through Leintwardine and eventually coming onto the A4067 past Cray reservoir.A.E.Evans who I worked for used to share a bit of W.G.Davies’ yard at Morriston and we used to fill up at Entress Transport at Llansamlet or Calor depot at the side of the A48.I expect those have gone now.
hi dave,as i remember that concrete beam was loaded at the old costain plant in bridgend, now known as “yet another tesco’s” lol, here are two of joint’s parked up at lokeren truckstop,as i remember we had tinplate on for antwerp and onward shipment to china, how times have changed since 1990.now everything comes into europe from china.

Hi Chris,
I know an ex Coastal Roadways driver Lou Jones, lives at Weobley Herefordshire, had a bad RTA about twenty five years ago,he might have some pics. I will ask him when I see him.
Cheers Dave.

Andrew you will have to get a load of scrap out to China, then get a backload of new goods inwards, that would be a good trip.
Cheers Dave.
Andrew, your f88 looks superb. My cousin ran a daycab 240hp ex HY-MAC excavators (yellow) along with its sister f86. The f88 was GBE111N,Iirc Evans of Tredegar who pulled steel out of Ebbw Vale bought them later. Not sure what they did with them though. Those f88’s were the business.
Joint Motorways E series ERF looks nice in red, white and green.

Hi Dave. Thanks pal,I didn’t get to know any of the drivers names. They used to do two, maybe three loads of styrene a day to BP Plastics at Barry - the place where Valley Carriers worked out of.Now and again they would do one up into Lancs or Cheshire, but IIRC they ran back home empty - like s*** off a shovel!

Chris, I think Lou drove a Merc, had his RTA with another lorry at Morville near Bridgenorth.
Hi Dave.I think Coastal Roadways ran all ERFs when I was around, hope I have got the right company - black and white liveryish with a depot at Pyle or maybe Stormy Down,on the R/H side of the old A48 before the Porthcawl turn off?
here is a sed. atki 400 of t.d. williams taken in ostende?t.d.w. are still very much with us,though they are now based in bridgend,as opposed to there spiritual home of ammanford.t.d.williams is a real truck enthusiast ,he owns several classic commercials and i see him fairly regularly on the road runs and shows throughout the summer months.
Andrew, the pic of TD Williams reminded me of trips to France. They were running Ivecos 1990/91 with tilts mostly to Spain I believe. A couple of good guys
came over to Gullivers transport services Cardiff to run on the fridges. GTS ran a smart fleet of of 2035 Mercs and G+A reefers. The transport operation was based in Cardiff, and run by the son of Gullivers truck rental Bristol. Like many others I never carried a camera, and regret it now.
that would be phillipe harding.we were on the same table as him at a charity ball last saturday night at the celtic manor resort newport.
