Tony Morgan’s Mack Interstater was a good looking truck. Did it survive or did it end up being scrapped ?

Hi Dean,
Thanks for the MACK picture,I loved that truck as a lorry Mad 12 year old,Some say it was driven by Bob Webster to a central London Hotel, where an Arab bought it? Others say it’s been seen in a yard in Holland in the last two years. So,as you’ve guessed, nobody really knows?
Regards Andrew.

Shame would have been nice to see that motor restored.

Andrew,
I will get our Dutch correspondent on that job for you, it may have been sourced in Holland as those lads where keen on their Macks, did they assemble them over there at one time?

N.M.P’s
The Jensen has a Merthyr reg so I presume it worked out of Llandow?

The GKN AEC is in the same livery as the AEI Cables fleet, were the two companies linked?

Yes they certainly did, Floor in Hilversum (30 minutes east of Amsterdam) used to assembly them, they sold quite a few of them back in the day due to the dollar rate being very low at the time, most ended up in the fleet of heavy hauliers.

Coincidentally my brother used to live one street away from the old premises. But there’s nothing anymore to remind one about it.

After Floor lost the contract they’d decided to put their knowledge to the test and build their own lorry, which became known as FTF, fitted with DD engines in all sort of ranges.

Going back on topic, I thought the Morgan Mack was the one that was restored in the livery of Overdorp IJmuiden, but I might be wrong… as usual…

For more info about it I suggest you contact Monné in IJsselstein, he’s the to go to address for everything concerning Mack past and present.

Cheers, Patrick

Hi Ianto,
Thats correct,Pacific had a reputation for building heavy duty logging trucks. My books on WYNNS all tell me that they were originally powered by Hall & Scott petrol engines.i’d shudder to think of the fuel consumption!!!
Regards Andrew.

Thanks for that, Pete. Yes, on reflection, as its a late one on a V-plate (along with its sisters) that is a quite likely combo. Cheers, Ro

No, both were huge companies. AEI was taken over by GEC in 1968.

Pete Smith,
Hello Pete, re: the Jensen photo iirc the Triang factory was in Merthyr.
Back in the seventies when driving for JR we moved a lot of machinery and equipment from their London factory to Merthyr. Nightmare of a job, machinery of all shapes and sizes and boxes of bits and pieces on a forty footer held on by ropes and sheets Happy Days ?
Regards, Allan

Wasn’t it part of the lend/lease agreement that the Diamond T’s etc. were to not go back to America after use in order to not affect the home truck market for US truck makers?
