Morning Chris
Re: the photo of the Vale Tpt: Seddon, Vale Tpt: was owned by John Raymond’s brother Richard Raymond and another brother David ran Argosy Tpt:. They all operated out of Port Talbot steelworks but John had a few more irons in the fire. Can’t remember if Vale were ever taken over but I don’t think so, could be wrong though.
Regards , Allan

Morning Allan.
Thanks for that. Argosy Transport rings a bell as well.

Hi Chris,
I hope your recent move to Thirsk wasn’t too traumatic? Thanks for the Vale Transport photo. As Mr Steel (Allan) says, the company was owned by Richard Raymond,I can just about remember them based on Stormy Down in the early 1970’s,they later moved to Village Farm Industrial Estate In Pyle,Argosy were next door.Vale didn’t sellout, they finished around 6 months after the 1979 strike,■■■■ Raymond sadly passed away in 1980 and his widow June passed away around two months ago.
Regards Andrew.

Hi Andrew.
 We got on the next to last passenger carrying ferry to Heysham, freight only after that,so escaped by skin of our teeth. Unfortunately our furniture is still int Isle of Man as removals aren’t classed as urgent and anyway if a Manx crew had brought it across they would have had to self isolate for 14 days on return. We are ok though as our son supplied a load of gear for us,plenty of snap, nice and warm so what more could we want? :grimacing:

Hi all,

DEANB:
Andrew, Dont remember ever seeing red motors of T.D.Williams like the marathons in your photo ? Was that there original colour scheme as i
always thought they were blue.

Hi Dean, sorry I Only just read your message.T.D.Williams had a few in red,I remember at least one GUY Big J.
In my opinion,Theres a really good double success story with TDW & Maritime. This FH was driven by TDW International legend Mark Williams, who retired from the company 3 years ago, after 40 plus years service.I think Mark told me that he took this on the way into Antwerp,on his last trip.Though Mark hasn’t had the best of health,he’s always in good spirits whenever we meet up and he smokes like a bloody trooper! He called into work recently with one of his sons,Welsh rugby icon Shane Williams.
Regards Andrew.

N.M.P’s
Thank you to Allan, johnmea and Lance for the info on Mansell Davies Volvo.
Good to see she still survives, needs the loving care and the spray gun of a certain resident from Porthcawl I think!

Andrew, Makes you wonder if they took over a small company or they were red for a certain contract possibly.

I can vouch for the TD Williams colours being red back to 1974, when he had 2 Scammel Handymans in that colour. The day cab F10 with Mansel Davies was I believe originally operated by Hendre Quarries, Aberystwyth and I would assume have been supplied by Mansel Davies.

Hiya,
The far offside trailer tyre wouldn’t pass muster in this day and age.

Hi all. Andrew great photo there on the Black Rock. Nice to see the old Rhymney brewery logo with the horse and jockey on the Royal Oak pub wall. Both pubs sold the local beer. Cheers!
