Hi Pete, looking at the photo of the Greenland ERF i think it’s a safe bet to say that it’'s waiting to tip at British Steel/ Lye Spencer Fordhouses. Both coil bays were at the end of both sides of the building and could sometimes be a bit of problem depending on the length of the trl: behind you.
Regards ,Allan

Hi all,
Thanks for sharing those pictures Pete. Here are a few Glyn John Transcon’s,Some are new,Some I think we may have had previously?
I remember John Gray he was living in Efail Isaf last time I talked to him, I think he finished his working days driving for the Vale council.
Cllve.
Hi all,
Richard Ferguson,a former Lloyd’s Of Ludlow driver, kindly sent me these three images.Possibly amongst the earliest? SCANIA 110’s new in South Wales.I generally meet up with Fergie throughout the events season,as he drives some of the late Tony Lloyd’s Collection. In some of the earlier pages on our thread, these 110’s are shown next to the Vabis’ that Davies had back then.Monarch Transport of Llandow had some G Reg’s new also.Len Tyler who drove one of them kindly gave me some photos around 10 years ago.when we did some work on his car…
In the 60s, When running down to South Wales, Britton Ferry , Neath, with fire bricks from Henery Fosters at Backworth for the steel works I used to back load from Gwyn Bowens, Parffits Transport, Trevor Philips,And last but not least,Mr Lewis from Llanwern when tipping at Richard Thomas Balwins works,At Newport, These were the good old days when driving for a living in my book was a good way to earn good wages plus night out money, I worked for Smiles for Miles My late great uncle Isaac Smiles family firm, Renowned for looking after their drivers, I would if I could do it all again, But at 84 years of age I dont think there is much chance of that,
Stay safe all of you on this thread, Regards Larry.

Morning Allan,
I can’t remember their being a large brick wall at Fordhouses, I only tipped in there 2 times and the last time they would not tip me because I had no chin ■■■■■■■■ my helmet, so took my boot lace out and used that!
I “lifted” the pic off ebay and it looks like Bilston in the top r/h corner? Could be outside Sankey’s? Cheer’s Pete

Morning Andrew,
No problem mate,
Whilst we are on about Transcons, I noticed a comment on another site that a lad drove one on a K reg, that surely cannot be correct? I’m not that green to believe everything I read but just got me thinking! Cheer’s Pete

Hi Pete,
Tbh I though it looked more like Ramsgate? Isn’t what I’d know as Fordhouses a Porsche dealers now? A K Reg Transcon,a very rare truck, reminds me of the time, years ago in Upton,a slaughtered Spandler Bros driver told SteelboyF10 and I that he had an 8 cylinder Gardner in an 88,fitted it himself,in the desert,I think that may have been just after he (allegedly) left the SAS and loaded twenty tonnes of steel under a full load of hanging in an Irish fridge.Doesnt matter how many you’ve heard, there are always some more…
Regards Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
Yes there is a Porsche dealership on the front where the fairground used to park, can you remember the Leyland Octopus under the sheet there? The buildings are still in use by various companies.
You forgot to mention the coach diff and how he just missed the Herald

Yes mate,If they hadn’t stopped for a coffee in Jabeeke? Dear god that ship would never have left port, given the number who say, they were nearly? On board. Don’t forget, just one former Cardiff Transport driver (allegedly) used to carry three slabs? On a suicide mission.Everyone else only ever had two.some of these, ahem,Drivers? If you’ve got a Giraffe in your garden? They’ve got a jumper to fit it…
Regards Andrew.
Morning Andrew,
I’m going to guess that the pic is taken at Patent Shaft? only going by the flats in the background and Lye Spencer’s Merc!
I can spot Lloyd’s, Burholme, Cardiff Transport and possibly a Haywards F10.
That is a rare shot of Mansell’s F10 day cab, I wonder if was purchased used from a petroleum company or Bulmer’s Cider? Cheer’s Pete
ps. I like the comment in the thread above regarding the giraffe and a jumper, I’m nicking that one!

Morning, re: the photo of the Greenland ERF i think I need to stand corrected. Looking at some photos I took when I started with Faber Prest you are probably right about the location .
The day cab Volvo of Mansel Davies was probably new to them as it carries a Cardigan registration
Cheers, Allan

I remember that night he was driving a ERF ex-IDIONs of Preston with a 900 ■■■■■■■■ in so he said
His party peace was standing at the bar ordering a drink with his pants round his ankles
That’s the fella Lance
Re the Mansell Davis F12, it’s for sale at the dealer in Bridlington, looks a bit sorry for itself.

Hendre Quarries from Aberystwyth owned the F12 from new. It was sold to them by Mansel Davies and went back to them in part ex for an FH12. Hendre Quarries had 2 f12 day cabs

Re: the photo of the Vale Tpt: Seddon, Vale Tpt: was owned by John Raymond’s brother Richard Raymond and another brother David ran Argosy Tpt:. They all operated out of Port Talbot steelworks but John had a few more irons in the fire. Can’t remember if Vale were ever taken over but I don’t think so, could be wrong though.
Regards , Allan
Andrew, Dont remember ever seeing red motors of T.D.Williams like the marathons in your photo ? Was that there original colour scheme as i
