South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

This was taken on the day a group of us had our newly-acquired AEC Regent V bus (new to South Wales Transport in 1955) shifted from Tonmawr, where the previous owner had stored her and done a lot of preparatory work, to W G Davies’ yard at Morriston where we continued with the restoration work. I was not present that day, but I am told that she was driven under her own steam for at least part of the journey. You could get away with a lot more back in those days. The present owner keeps her at Swansea Bus Museum and is completing a very detailed restoration to get her ready for her 60th birthday. Worth a visit on Sunday 31 May if you have time to spare.

That little W G Davies Bedford; I had forgotten about that one. Looks like she ran on trade plates - red on white, stop on sight. I cannot see her in my list of W G Davies lorries.

Volume one completed, 120 pages

Hi Bill,

There are a number of lorries on my W G Davies list for which only registration numbers are given, but for those positively identified as Bedfords I can list the following:
982DWN 9 ton carrying capacity, off fleet May 1968
504HCY 10 ton carrying capacity, off fleet Feb 1974
CKG647B horse box 5 ton carrying capacity, off fleet May 1978
HTH538F tipper 11 ton carrying capacity, in Jan 1973, out Mar 1976
KEP790P artic 22 ton carrying capacity, demonstrator on loan 3 days in Nov 1975

None of these seem to fit either the little TK recovery truck or the two you mention, but then my list is based on fragmented contemporary records and does not give the full picture. Any advance on this?

My mate has built this for me and I must admit I never thought that it would turn out this good

Nice model.

I haven’t fetched it yet, but I can’t get over the detail and the work that must have gone into it, all credit to the man
