Hiya,
Andrew, just spotted the pics of “the nearly ready Merc” and in a word WOW.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi all. Andrew, cracking picture of Alan Prices new FH.
Takes me back to my young days when Alan would chase me all over the yard pointing his walking stick at me. I was always in trouble for something.
That’s a good image of him there, and I believe that number plate might be his original one he had many years ago on his car. He purchased the car off one of the drivers, and transferred the plate to his Jaguar back in 1980/81.

Good old days. Regards Paul.

Hi Paul,
Price of bargoed’s are a proper South Wales bulk haulier, plenty have come and gone within their time of trading.a mate told me that registration was on Alan prices’ car,I remember seeing that reg on a merc car back in the 80’s outside work in South cornelly.Harry, thanks for the very kind words, the heinkle is nearly finished.processing the registration and mot at the moment.

Nice looking motor Andrew, very smart mate ! Who painted it for you?  Seriously though what is the attraction/point of those mini super front wheels won’t they upset the steering geometry and put more strain on the steering? What make of 5th wheel are you putting on the unit ? Cheers Dennis.

hi dennis,
as soon as i saw the truck,in a freezing cold munich last january,i noticed how wrong,to me anyway? the 315’s looked on the steer.as you may be aware? the cab on the 530 is mounted 2 inches higher than all the other variants of the sk.in my opinion the 385’s on the steer fill the arch more and also look cool.i have a new jost fifth wheel being delivered by allspares on tuesday.the original fifth wheel was for a 3.5 inch pin.the bed for the fifth wheel is made by jost and has welded locators on there.alot of the joint sk’s from that era were fitted with fontaine fifth wheels.
regards andrew.

Thanks for the explanation Andrew ! I was always a York Big D fan,had all the new motors delivered with the Bid D but after York went down I did start using Jost which were always promoted to me as superior to Big D but we had excellent service from the York 5th wheel and they were cheaper than Jost ! I never had any experience of Fontaine, were they French ? Anyway,Happy motoring in the Big Merc it’s a credit to you mate :sunglasses: ! Cheers Dennis.

Hello Harry,
The Michelin man will be mounted on the top of the near side mirror arm.not sure which side that is though? On a left ■■■■■■  this motor is a bit of you, I’d say.

Hiya,
Drove plenty of the Leyland Octopus’s with the same cab but never got hold of an
Albion Caledonian I wanted too for comparison. There was one that used to get
by me when I was doing Scotland many moons ago true he was only solo and I was
pulling a drawbar but even on level going when I was giving it big licks he always
managed to creep past usually offering me the box of matches when cab to cab.
thanks harry, long retired.

Will one on each mirror arm be a bit much Andrew ?

Bloody Michelin men Andrew,I was plagued with the ■■■■■■■ things these were just some of them I could dig out but there was a few more than these, they even had lights inside some of them !! I think they went out of fashion after a few years as I seem to recall a couple stuck up in the workshop somewhere, best place for them IMHO     Cheers Dennis.

No kelsa bars for you Dennis

Hiya Lance, hows it going pal ? No I was never one for all the bollox which only seems to have got worse over the years from what I notice nowadays :open_mouth: Cheers Dennis.

Heres a sign most welsh drivers will remember, it stood outside Aberpergwm washery for many years. in the late 80s I think it was, I was driving by when they were demolishing the site, the only thing left standing was the sign by the gate.as I had loaded under the screens there many times I thought the sign ought to be saved, so I stopped, went in ,saw one of the workers and said what you going to do with the sign? he just shrugged his shoulders and said break it up I spect. so I gave him a fiver and he said I haven’t seen nothing!!! so I took it down ,put it on the back of me lorry and away.
