i found this one on Facebook, says pembrokeshire above the screen.

I believe that lhd transcon belonged to Lloyd Jenkins from pembroke, I think billy belt owned it after.

Hi all,

New here, I’m not a driver but when I was a child I used to go along with my dad often. He drove for Hughes Haulage (Llanelli), then drove for Parsons Pickles out of Burry Port.

Just spent the best part of the weekend looking through the great pics on this forum especially the south Wales Hauliers. Recently went back to South Wales to tkae the kids to meet their grandparents. Jeez how I remember many of the trucks posted here.

Anyone know of any pics out there of my old man’s trucks of the time when he was driving for Parsons Pickles (Leslie A Parsons & Sons).

First he had a Merc V6 1619 in blue with a white Fruehaf trailer (I think). The trailers were quite unique as they had the sliding doors.

After the 1619, he had a new 1633 that he said could really fly, and loves to tell the tale of when he was coming back from Glasgow how someone told him about how to remove a fuse from the speed retarder and then the Merc would really fly along, although of course fuel consumption would suffer. After he tried that he then said that it frightened the beejesus out of him so he put the fuse back in. The 1633 had a big wind deflector on it, didnt see many with that, normally they had the standard merc deflector.

In between the 1619 and the 1633 he had a Ford Transcontinental on demo which he liked for the room etc, but one of the things that bugged him was that the mirrors were not fixed to the doors, so every time he opened the door he knocked the mirrors out of line!!!

great pics like I said, brings back a lot of memories and nostalgia. Never drove, my parents insisted I get an “education”, so I worked on a farm for a year then went to university!!!

Dont see many Welsh trucks where I live now, a place called Bolzano, near the Brenner Pass between Italy and Austria.

many thanks

A

Great shot of the Wynns Atki Dai I wonder if it is in preservation ? Now this motor would be a far better project for Mr. Cooper,a proper motor !!Cheers Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
How are you mate? I agree, the Atki is an iconic motor.that particular vehicle is a lot nearer to you than us in Wales.these days she is a part of the classic cadzow heavy haulage fleet based in East Kilbride?
Regards andrew.
