hi all,
during the 80’s you would see appleby’s scania’s everyday in south wales.they were,i think  from the midlands.as i recall they worked their motors hard on coal, coke and scrap.seen here in joint motorways port talbot yard, with what looks to me like a load of coke :sunglasses:

Hi Andrew, yes they were from Wolverhampton . Indeed they were worked hard and those Scanias would sound pretty ragged did a lot of coke to Llanwern regards kieth

hi all,
here are a few i took recently in the coed ely yard of c.j. bird.

looks sweet when jonny cleans it up lol lovely motor

Evening all, Andrew, KK, Mervyn Appleby ran out of Bloxwich, but lived in Wednesfield. Bought a Defender 8x4 Gardner 180 from me, I think about 1971ish. Overslung springs, I think they broke at least one every trip!! I think most of his Scanias came from my old friend Bill Wright, at B&W. Yes, Mervyns motors did work hard for a living, but then again every thing that did South Wales did!! Mervyns brother ran some very smart black Reivers on coal, out of New Invention, all sadly now long gone. Really interesting thread this one, thank you all. Cheerio for now.

hi saviem,
thank you for your insight into appleby’s,you sir, are a fountain of interesting knowledge :sunglasses: .regarding today’s bus and coach wales event,we all had a great time and here are a few for paul john.as this event’s name suggests, there were not many trucks there, but still a few worth seeing :sunglasses: .dai echo’s 143,is to die for :exclamation: :exclamation:

I believe that F16 underlift is kept fairly busy.
Neil.

pete 359:

A bit of trivia for you Andrew, Tony Morgan of Bridgends Scammell S26, C667 JKG ended up converted to a twin boom wrecker similar to this with Taunton trucks around 1992.
Neil.
