Evening all, Andrew, KK, Mervyn Appleby ran out of Bloxwich, but lived in Wednesfield. Bought a Defender 8x4 Gardner 180 from me, I think about 1971ish. Overslung springs, I think they broke at least one every trip!! I think most of his Scanias came from my old friend Bill Wright, at B&W. Yes, Mervyns motors did work hard for a living, but then again every thing that did South Wales did!! Mervyns brother ran some very smart black Reivers on coal, out of New Invention, all sadly now long gone. Really interesting thread this one, thank you all. Cheerio for now.

hi saviem,
thank you for your insight into appleby’s,you sir, are a fountain of interesting knowledge :sunglasses: .regarding today’s bus and coach wales event,we all had a great time and here are a few for paul john.as this event’s name suggests, there were not many trucks there, but still a few worth seeing :sunglasses: .dai echo’s 143,is to die for :exclamation: :exclamation:

Hello boys, all your trucks are nicely turned out as usual. I certainly agree Andrew, Dai echo’s 143 is superb.
I was just watching the Science channel, and they were building a 6 wheel double decker, rear engined Volvo. The colours were similar to Tayside Regional Councils in Dundee. It didn’t say who the body builders were, but may of been Alexander’s.
The segment was only 5/6 minutes, shame it couldn’t of been30/60.
I was into buses and coaches as a teenager, used to take trips all over the Valley’s catching different connections run by different operators. Got my badge actually, did my class 1 PSV in an ex Caerphilly / Rhymney Valley Leyland double decker. Crash box, cable hand-brake no power steering, hill starts stow hill Newport. Brilliant.
Wish I could make the Retro show, or racing at Pembrey. Thanks for the photo’s.

Regards Paul

I agree with you Harry. What is the gross weight allowed of a six-wheeler nowadays,I’m guessing 26t? And having a discharge pump on a curtainsider for small quantity drops is a good idea,is it summat new?
Bit out of touch.

Paul John, sorry didn’t take any bus pictures yesterday, but this website may interest you… http://www.ctpg.co.uk/

crikey andrew your like the scarlett pimpernal i cant remember you taking those pics.cheers martyn.

hello andrew.
i think i am 99% certain that the volvo f16 tractor belonging to roy williams started life with a london civil engineer by the name of tom mc gee,the registration iirc was L 351 EFC, it was offered for sale at an auction together with the king TL65 trailer which dave walters bought and which is in our yard still, the unit spent many years with buckingham plant hire before coming to merthyr.i think it was possibly one of the last f16 s built, as always i am open to correction.
graham.

hi lads,
merthyr was a good taster,of what’s in store at the retro :sunglasses:

These two Mandators, both with Sth Wales reg numbers, worked out of BP Baglan Bay and coking plants in the 70s.A E Evans had an office in W G Davies’ yard in Morriston and both motors were kept there. The job was run by ‘Jock’ Glover who sadly died last year.
Any of you Sth Wales lads recognize the reg’s?

hi all,
chris webb, cracking photos mate :sunglasses: .if this link works? then you will see what’s having it’s official launch at the retro truckshow in gaydon sept. 17th and 18th :sunglasses: .
