Some 'proper' dafs

I drove a 2100 for a day & a 2800 for a week… Very happy to hand them back on both occasions…

Defo not my cup of tea…

here’s my old 2500,from the days when it was legal to drive at 75mph

Legal to drive at 75mph■■? When was that?

Sorry lads but what I remember from driving 2800 and 3600’s was how cold they were in the winter even with a night heater. All that glass and the heater blowers which always burnt out. I went to Russia in them and nearly froze to death on occasion. I thought manna frtom heaven had arrived when I got a Danish spec LHD Scania 112.

Mind you there was a guy at Fransen transport by the name of “Chicken George” who I ran back from Poland with in Commie days. He was fully freighted and I was empty and he overtook me going up a hill in his 2800! He knew how to uprate them though. He maintained that it was only the pump settings which differentiated between the 2800 and anything bigger.

They were the days though. No queues like now and if there were the commie boys would wave you past while they drank their Cherry Brandy!

I had a 2100 18m draw bar for about 3 years in the 80`s, drove it all over Europe, then had a 2800 for a year or so, also a 3300 for a year or so and loved everyone of them. Even the slap over gear box!!

Horses for courses I suppose.

I know what you mean about the tag axle,i also drove a Scania 143 450 and a Volvo F89 with tag axles, proper trucks,i remember the Daf was very heavy, 20 tons empty (full of fuel and rails and hooks for the hanging beef in the fridge) we used to do 3 drops in Turkey then re-load frozen cherries out of Yugo and going over the weigh bridge into Hungary we were always 41tons+,those were the days. The last trips I did to Europe was in 2001 and the rates were bad then, full load from the Midlands to Madrid/Barcelona was about £450 we had our own work back from Spain so we made a bit back,i think this way we are seeing more est block companies

Here’s a few i drove,
Swift Transport 2800( Northfleet ) at the yard in Holborough ( Snodland )

This was what they mainly ran, 2100’s. They struggled on any incline.

2800 I drove whilst on Ridgeways. When we finished with it, it got sold & exported to Nigeria

It was replaced with this

if anyone should have pictures of nieuwborg transport … please add them .
We’re searching more pictures of this company
