The “R” plate belonged to Johnny Burden. He converted it himself. It had a home made exhaust that used to set car alarms off when it went past and an AEC steering wheel. John was an ex middle east man so as you can imagine there was all sorts in that cab to keep him going. Last time I saw that on the road was about 1992/3
Hiya d909fpr is the same lorry as the malcom elvy one. she was mine at one time.
the Laybond DAF is one i drove for 11 years out of Chester. now the rough looking Blue one
belonged to Keith Headley whats been modified at some time. Keith passed on but where is the lorry now■■?
their’s a site about Keith on trucknet but where the lorry is Thats drawn a blank.

hallo Anorak, production was from '72 until '74. I have an English brochure of the 304 but sold ■■?.It is the Dutch brochure (2600)
For some countries as Belgium and France and others it was the( 2605) that’s means bigger wheels, heavy duty springs,
in conformety the 13Ton rear axle and 6.5 front axle.
Cheers Eric,
Thanks for the info Tiptop. Any chance of posting some scans of the “304” brochure?
Judging by your earlier comments on the reliability of the 304, IE similar to the F88-290, maybe it was fortunate for DAF’s reutation that it was not popular in the conservative UK market. Having said that, the 290-88 is now regarded very fondly, according to many posts on TNUK.
I read somewhere that DAF had to remove the “304” badge from the grille of the lorry, to appease Peugeot, who made a silly little car of the same name.

Hi tiptop495 I know you’re a source of a lot of information on DAF engines. Where did the smaller 8,25litre DH engine in the 2100/2300/2500 come from? Was it a development of something else or a wholly DAF design?
Hallo RP2100, the 825 Dengine was a Daf development (about the same time as the 1160 DK series)
The first one’s were the DH825 163HP in the 2000 and the DU was in the 2200 with 195/201/218HP depends a bit in which language the brochure was printed. And than lots followed DHU, DHS,DHT and so on, in the 1900,2100,2300,2500.
that daf was rabbits motor nick bull put a cab extention on it for him there’s a pic on ere somewhere

Sorry mate, I dont think I,ve got any more pics of Rabbits Daf, I cant remember where we were when I took that one. 2nd question, no I,m not Nick Bull, what I meant was that the yellow spacecab in the other pic might
have been his.

I happened to be searching on Trucksales, an Oz website with new and s/hand trucks for sale, for something unrelated (oh, alright, if you must know I’d seen an early TK with a ‘For Sale’ note on it parked in a paddock some weeks before and wondered if its owner had an online ad - seems not, and it’s not there any more ) Anyway I searched on DAfs, and:
An average 1989 2500 chinese 6 (that looks like it was once an 8-legger) for AU$14K: ERROR
A 1987 3600ATi 6x4 with container pins (may have once been a wagon & drag): ERROR, AU$19,800.
My choice (if I had the dosh and wanted one), a 1986 3300 tractor unit (prime mover here) with 365,000km on the dial (bet it should have another number in front of that figure): ERROR, AU$16,860.
Although not common, I still see the odd 3300/3600 still working. Must remember to keep a camera with me.
hallo anorak, here the pic’s of the 2600DKB the spec’s depend for country to country ( even the HP believe or not torque is different in some brochures from country to country paper refuses not ink ).Their was only one brochure for it(I ever have seen) so the change to the fuller was never mentioned despite it came after a few months. But i must have a launch picture with the 304 badge BUT finding it in mountain paper is not so easely as a girl.( sort them out stupid fool ).So some Fuller’s at first were linked to the ratio 4.50 which was a real real flyer faster as Volvo’s 16 speed with only a 4.9 axle ( but some selfdoing men linked them to the not easely find 4.3. For me one of the most beautifull
lorries of its time, small cab as the F88,as I am a Volvo man I perfer the 2600 look. And the DKB had a better look with the other grill and higher set cab,the only and worst thing was the fixed cab. The look was futuristic as was the F88 a bit American as it was developped for the US.
Thanks for the scans Tiptop- I notice the specification sheet mentions the power output in DIN and SAE, presumably so it could be compared equally with those French engines which were quoted only to the more flattering SAE standard.
I agree with your opinion of the appearance of the 2600- along with some others (Bernard “Television”, for example), it was the first of the “modern” lorry cabs. Here is a picture I found on the internet, of the original, 1962 version:

hallo, comparing SAE and DIN is a big word because of the different anonncing of Hp difference they report.
Some gave 10SAE + other till 40HP
Example, F88 260DIN 270SAE
Saviem SM340 335SAE 304DIN
Fiat 204DIN 240SAE
