Some 'proper' dafs

didn’t Colin become C&K- runing Magnum’s pulling fridges at some point??

Found this on the web somewhere- an FTT2600 with the 304 engine, beautifully restored.

Can any of the DAF experts on here tell me when these went into production? Did any GB hauliers own one?

Slater & Son:
Posted around before, poached from other collections, but none-theless, some of Mr Eddom’s (and beyond!) examples…

The first artic I ever drove on the road was an ex Brain Haulage 2800 day cab with fold down bunk, it had that evil 12spd ZF back to front splitter box, since then I’ve had a couple of 2300s, one intercooled with an 8spd range change, the other a turbo only with the back to front 12spd splitter, from then I had a DKSE with the 9spd Fuller and then one of the very first E reg 95s brand spanking new, then a change of jobs saw me doing my first trip to Italy in a 2800 :sunglasses:

Always liked them, best bottom bunk in the business

I passed my Class2 in a daf 2100 for some reason the only thing I can remember is it had a really long gearstick.

One of S J Selfe,s old 2800 working in algeria in 1983.It was running from mostagenham to tamerasset across the sahara. This was on a return trip with the empty trailer,s.We would take 2x20 foot container,s down then load the other tractor units an trailers up for the return.

This photo was taken outside S J Selfe,s yard when they were in narrow street london.Loaded with crowd barrier,s.

WOuldnt mind owning some property in narrow st now

It was said Sid Selfe could have bought this yard for 300k in the mid 80,s.3 years after he left it was sold for 3 million.

Quite believable mate.

this was one i bought new, i went on to buy 2 more new and 3 used and found them to be economical and very little problem during a long and hard working lifetime.

Well well, what should turn up on flickr but a pic of my old wagon C275 DGS, taken by foden_djp some years after I left

Hi Parkroyal , makes you feel good that you looked after it well ? dont you think . looks nice and tidy .

Jakey, that was taken some years after I left this mob and I;m glad someone took the old ■■■■■■■ and took a bit of pride in it. Seems silly to get sentimental about what is basically a whole lot of bits of metal bolted together, but when you spend hours and weeks and years working with one that’s what often happens. These old DAFs were plodders compared to some Scanias and Volvos and what have you, but they were built like brick [zb]houses, could allegedly cough cough  take loads way over their plated payload and were in my experience utterly dependable, and that counted for a lot.

you are correct there buddy , the old dafs were good work horses.

I’ve got a cracking photo of the DAF I used to drive. If ever I can learn how to post piccies, I’ll share it!

somone is fixing her up

John

The “R” plate belonged to Johnny Burden. He converted it himself. It had a home made exhaust that used to set car alarms off when it went past and an AEC steering wheel. John was an ex middle east man so as you can imagine there was all sorts in that cab to keep him going. Last time I saw that on the road was about 1992/3

hallo Anorak, production was from '72 until '74. I have an English brochure of the 304 but sold ■■?.It is the Dutch brochure (2600)
For some countries as Belgium and France and others it was the( 2605) that’s means bigger wheels, heavy duty springs,
in conformety the 13Ton rear axle and 6.5 front axle.

Cheers Eric,

Hi tiptop495 I know you’re a source of a lot of information on DAF engines. Where did the smaller 8,25litre DH engine in the 2100/2300/2500 come from? Was it a development of something else or a wholly DAF design?
