Some 'proper' dafs

Hiya…called in on a pal of mnie this morning and wahhay his new playtoy was sitting their…
this is a odd little woman DAF 2300 day cab small engine three axels and a 16 speed box…
I’d of thought she was hard work at 32 tons so why 3 axels…anyhow 90,000 klicks from new
and in 1st class condition… its a pity about the front wing…HAS anyone out there got a better
front wing than the the half one fitted

Cheers John

Hiya i bet the beacon gave it away…i seem to think it pulled a 60ft trailer with a single axle at the back,
that was in the days when the wings was taken to manchester.go stuck behind it many times…

Hiya Keith…Did you put a diff in B601 KGU or had Walkers done it for you…that daf was the motorshow
DAF…it was new to Callander’s(felt company Crigglestone) it was all pea green with the picture of the end of a roll of
felt on the door.she was transfered to the Chester depot COLAS and was painted silver with a black chassis.
Colas then had a management buy out and the name was changed to Laybond.i had B601 for about 9 years then
the diff was in a bad way…apart from the diff she’d give you good service she only had 3 drivers
when she was parked up and i got a new FL10 what a come down…i could have bought B601
for £750…, if only I’d have bought her. I payed alot more for the White one with green stripes.
have you any photo’s to post
John

My first international job was with a Dutch company called Geliton. out of Velthoven nr Eindhoven. Used to run to the UK and Turkey, at 22 no English company would hire a young lad with no experiance, so got on my bike & found a job in Holland.
Geliton was a small family business that had gone bankrupt but still kept 6 trucks to pay off debts, But pay was good but tucks were forever breaking down. Spent christmass day stripping down the engine in a Motel car park in praque, the only place with a teliphone to the west. How times change, Today a new driver having compleated an NVQ & CPC will expect a late model truck with Europe wide breakdown cover & probably somebody to meet him at the Turkish border to do his customs :unamused:

Take note of the registration number, it is a pity it was put on the wrong lorry!

How could they expect anyone to get through Kapik without training, it is ridiculous  :stuck_out_tongue:

Took this in late 1983 (when I was 16)-the location is Newingreen,a small village on the A20 in Kent between Ashford & Folkestone.

Can’t 100% recall who Gemini Traction were but it’s possible they pulled for Inter City Trucks based at nearby Lympne.
