So....

Silver_Surfer:
What you mean by complying with EU driving law, folk are doing too much work?

It’s a maximum as laid down in the EU law, not something that anyone who considers themselves a ‘real’ trucker has to achieve every day/week/fortnight.

Of course it would of happened. You’ve got lady parts. Lady parts too close to the steering wheel… An accident waiting to happen really.

It wouldn’t. It was the man with his power tools. His fault and case rested.

Anyway, haven’t you got an ingrowing toenail to attend to?

Dear 4aaaa4dd. I don’t know you, don’t want to, don’t care about your ■■■■■■■■■, don’t care what you call me. And I certainly don’t care what my work mates think of me, as I always prescribe to two philosophies. 1 sticks and stones and all that. 2 Work hard for myself and my family and [zb] who that annoys. Whether it was a wind up or a personal attack on me, for which I see no reason or provocation. The fact is you seem to have annoyed at least 4 or 5 posters on this thread, all of which carry more stature and credence within the forum than you. I never have, nor ever will report a post to a mod or admin, so it’s not me who got your posts removed, you did that by yourself. That will be my last word to you on the subject. Whatever you reply will not get a raise as I’m not that childish to need the last word

good …I win.

Nope my toenails are all sorted now. Not had a problem for a few months. I’m liking the attitude though

Clearly. :unamused:

As I see it, a lot of the posters are right about some things, and wrong in others. What the op was stating is the fact that he doesn’t have a choice, and thats the idea of most transport managers and planners. They have had it too easy for too long, and a 15 hr day isn’t up for negotiation in my eyes. They have introduced it into a normal working day, and that’s wrong, every driver should be able to reduce or not, and not be threatened with Theres the gate or Don't you like the job anymore sarcastic nonsense.
I am not saying that if a company has a last minute schedule, that someone has to cover, it shouldn’t be covered, but leave it to the driver, and if it doesn’t happen too often, then so be it, help out. But if it happens on a regular basis, then start a driver later, or reorganise the schedules to accommodate. I think most drivers working for a decent company, would help out when needed, but if a driver is put under pressure, he will react like a raging bull.

I think the original idea of allowing 3 x 15 hr days a week and 2 x 10 hr drives was simply to allow a bit of wriggle room for the days when a normal planned 13 hr day goes ■■■■ up.
NOT designed to be planned in and used to the max every week.

I’ve never understood why you can only reduce your rest period 3 times.

Most people work a 5 day week, so most trampers are in the wagon 4 nights, why does 1 of them have to be 11hrs??

The max of 3 reduced daily rests between weekly rests - not per week - was probably due to some EU politician deciding that it was the safe limit

Perhaps this is partly why many companies operate a 4 on 4 off system

Certainly gives a pointer to why so many drivers end up alone or married multiple times in this thread eh

anyone who chooses a shift over their kids is a ■■■■

any planner who plans 15’s as a target is a ■■■■

any boss especially small firms who lets their planners get away with it is a ■■■■

thank god some companies respect work/life balance.

I never said per week… I know that it’s between weekly rest periods and the 10hr drive time is twice in a fixed working week.

I just said, most people work mon - fri / sat, or 5 days in a row, so why as a tramper are we only allowed to reduce 3 times instead of 4, why 3 of all numbers?

Trust me, I don’t particularly want to do 4 15hr days, but I also don’t want to spend 11hrs in the truck, I’d rather be earning or getting home

Good thread this   Just gets better as it goes along

I agree with you, depends what sort of firm you’re on for as to wether it’s expected or not, horses for courses. In general haulage it is expected more often than not to max out.
