Last year I came accross some 50x ex council gritters (mostly Foden) in a yard in Ripley, Derbyshire. Here are 12x brand new Merc ones (and 12x more opposite), just delivered into a Birmingham Council Depot…

February 2008 this gritter with a snow plough attached is heading up the B6232 Grane Road towards Haslingden
After two days of blizzards in January 1978 with six foot snow drifts in places this snow plough had been busy reopening the A6052 between Denshaw and Delph.
Heres 2 Atki Gritters ready for there next job,taken in the early 90s…The one on the left is now being restored by me…:-

aye the first 2 are Canadian (Manitoba)/the last one is myself driving up the A708 about the grey mares tail just about out o Dumfries and Galloway and intae the borders. Magirus Deutz 6x6 either TSM 584T or TSW 836 T Lockerbie roads depot based ,they replaced 2 petrol Mack NLs 6x6 from 1946.picture either 80,81 or 82.
Has any body got any photos of snow ploughs or gritters actually clearing snow, or gritting the roads?I for one would be most interested as i havent seen any doing anything productive lately, so im guessing these pictures would be in some ones archives and probably not recent ones…
