Cash machines are a service they have every right to charge for as far as I’m concerned. We have no right to withdraw our money for free. Banks stick them on the wall outside branches and let you use them for free because it saves people going into the bank and requiring a salaried cashier - like a self service checkout in Tesco.
Lets just stop you there Rob. Tesco do not charge at any of their machines to get cash out. They also do cash back at a till for free (self service or not) . So not …like a self service checkout in Tesco ?
While we’re on about rubbish services I’ll chuck Maidstone Services into the hat £29 to park no voucher, glory holes in the toilet cubicles and the shower is disgusting, next time I stop there I’ll drop you an email like.
On a plus side, last time I stopped at Wetherby Services the cleaner was cleaning the showers after every use, I pulled the manager to one side and told him how impressed I was and that I wished other services had the same approach.
And to add to that the retail outlets at some motorway services like cherwell valley will not give you cashbacks even WHS who you pay for their rip off parking won’t, that to me is a stitch up in a bid to force you to use the ATM’s if you need / want cash ,
And i like most others don’t think it acceptable that we should have to pay to access our money at ATM’s or make parasitical companies big profits at our expense, £2 or higher is unacceptable
Something should be done to control what they are legally able to charge, it isn’t only at services these ATM’s are installed some towns have several where bank ATM’s are in short supply, usually in areas of high unemployment and poverty , why should these parasites be allowed to prosper of the backs of the poor?
They should have the fellas in them that they have in the nightclub toilets, stood there like great big enuchs spraying aftershave and scent on ya and stuff. I think it’d be nice coming out the shower , lifting your leg onto a stool and getting a quick rub down and a dose of talc !!
Put them on comission or something !
Truckulent:
Simple. All drivers stop doing nights out at the services.
Everywhere. All nationalities. No one.
How long before they improved? How long before they realised? How long before they tried to tempt drivers in? They don’t care because drivers put up with it, and they know that they will continue to!
It won’t happen of course. But it illustrates the potential power of drivers.
Which doesn’t exist here because drivers don’t stick together.
The problem is they don’t want us there in the first place hence the ridiculous prices to park so would be more than happy if we boycotted their places. Its a lose lose for us.
nearly there:
Well thats bollox.of course they want trucks parking one it makes them money on a bit of land they already own at most put some marked bays in, two there more likely to get fuel sales as the trucks leave and three they sell you dear take away crap.so to say they dont want a revenue sourse is just dumb.
If they wanted us there why do they charge us in some places £26.00 to park? Its hardly bargain value for money is it?
They charge a ridiculous fee because they know a vast number of us have no choice but to use their facilities. Parking options are getting less and less by the day.
Look at it another way. If we could all pull up on the hard shoulder for a nights kip how many would be folking out £26 for parking? Very few
You ansewerd your own question.they charge so much cause they can and you pay it.if drivers started standing up for themselfs by doing what luke suggests, making formal complaints everytime its not up to scratch.
To be honest though on the rip off cash machines I don’t see any reason to use them. Just go cashless. Years ago I realised that if I got £20 to say buy something to eat for say £6/7 the remaining £13/14 would just end up being frittered away on nothing. Get twenty out and you’ll spend twenty. So for at least ten years I’ve paid for everything I can with my debit card, no amount is too small. If I work it out I probably get about £100 a year out in cash for stuff where cards aren’t taken. Another upside of doing it this way is it removes the temptation to be lazy and eat in snack vans our buy rubbish from vending machines! I’m so free of cash I usually can’t even muster 20p for a coffee from a machine! Break the hold cash has on you people! Life is easier without it!

Or if people email me I’ll complain about disgusting showers. Time to name and shame.
A lot of the problem is City and Town Councils get away with not supplying adequate Lorry Parks with facilities.
IF any of them do provide somewhere to park its usually, more often than not, outside of town miles away from any where without any adequate facilities or its so uneven that its not safe to drive a loaded vehicle on.
Another thing is there`s an awful lot of drivers who only know motorway services, they have never ventured off the motorway to park up at night, same as when they look at a map they only look at the “blue” line even though there are some good “green” lines.
ok switchlogic here goes todington south disgusting no room to swing a cat already complained twice ,Cherwell valley what are they about and most of these service area’s have no sink’s with hot and cold water only look’s warm almost all have no temperature control only one, hot or cold mostly with no pressure you have to dance to get wet that’s if you can dance no room for your clothes all should have a chair cheivley the same the best ive found although not been for a while is rugby ts they clean them after every use, I did suggest to moto that they go and have a look but that fell on deaf ears ,cash machines look for shell on msa’s most are free hope you put this on face ache although ime not on it once the manager’s see there patch in the public view they might go red and do something here’s hoping
Why is it when you get into the shower room there is 1 bench type seat that gets wet with condensation, so you end up with nowhere to get dry properly as the water goes to the back of the room , end up having to balance 1 foot at a time trying not to get your bare feet on the floor to catch someone else’s diseases and nowhere to get changed either due to the same problem as getting dry … Everywhere is wet , should have desperate cubicle like 1 of the showers in buttonwood M62

Lorry Parks in built up areas come with a lot of headaches, hence why they virtually non existent these days.
Firstly, councils all under pressure to trumpet their green credentials don’t want to encourage non-loading lorry traffic into town. Then there is the fact they are noisy (reefers etc.), attract crime, ladies of the night and drivers make a mess of them. Joe & Henrietta Public don’t want them anywhere near their homes. And, being honest, would you? I can envisage the ‘No to the lorry park’ protests now.
happysack:
Christ almighty. Some of you moan like [zb] old women.
You enjoy having a shower in some of the [zb] holes they fob is off as showers then?
No. I wouldn’t use them. Don’t use cash machines you have to pay for either.
Trouble is there ain’t many showers of even a half decent standard on UK’s motorway network and there is no other choice of either a shower in a ■■■■ hole or a strip wash.
sayersy:
I really hope that when you asked Truck And Driver, you put in some punctuation. I made it through the first three lines, then I gave up.
If you genuinely are struggling to read what he wrote and not attempting to make a fool of him I’d suggest the problem is at your end. It was easy to understand.
Have to agree, did a year in Rugby a few years back plenty of work and cheap enough place to live sign on to at least four agencies and you should be ok
