Black paint is fine,if you look after it.
Sponges and Romanians,should be avoided.
I was gonna make a joke there ^^^ but I like not being a member of the premod club too much!

£1800?
What did it need loll.
Water pump, thermostat and O ring took up a fair chunk, they are a nightmare to change on these. It’s not like back in the old days when you would pop the bonnet on an Austin Cambridge and there they were staring right back at you. BMW (whose engine it is) decided in their infinite wisdom that the best place for them was at the bottom of the engine at the rear and so close to the engine subframe that this needed to be dropped then raised at one end to get the bolts undone then dropped and raised again to fit the new assembly.
Brake discs, pads and sensors all round plus handbrake shoes, track rod ends, front lower wishbone bushes, drop links, rear dampers and top mounts, a wheel bearing, transmission fluid change, bonnet struts, a sill repair panel welding in, rear light seals, windscreen wipers and the exhaust bracket welding.
I could have got it done more cheaply, for example I had an MOT advisory on one track rod and one rear damper but got both replaced in pairs. I could have had the sill patch welded. I could have used a stick to prop the bonnet open.
But there wasn’t anything else I could do which made better economic sense. A ten-year-old mid-range car goes for £7,000+ nowadays and would be worth less than half of that in three years time, which is the minimum period I need to keep a car for. And a ten-year-old car could need expensive work doing at any time, and can be massively more expensive to fix the same problems, a friend with a Skoda just paid £350 for one rear damper whereas I paid £120 for a pair, OEM.
When I retire and no longer need to have a car to get to work, the little Honda Express moped will probably do me. It’s MOT exempt, has free VED as it’s a Historic Vehicle and insurance is virtually free as it’s covered on the same policy as the CBF125, in fact I pay less to insure both bikes than the girl I bought the CBF from to insure that alone.

Finally sold my butch macho pick up trerrrrk
I succumbed to pressure from the wife, she’s been banging on about a 7 seater to carry around the little grandkids,
I suggested they’d love sitting in the back of the pick up, but she wasn’t having any of it.
So…I’ve lost a lot of street cred in my area…, I’ve gone from local celeb Urban Cowboy (or a pound shop Bandit from ‘‘Smokey and the…’’) … .
to full on Granda Rob in his Ford Grand C max Titanium 7 seater mpv.
Sacking off my lumberjack shirt, cargo shorts,.and Timberland boots for a Pringle v neck jumper and tie, crimplene chino slacks, and black slip on brogues…NOT.
Anyhoo bought my first accessory for it at weekend.

In the real world the French are going to set speed cameras with no margin at all when even 140 kmh is laughably slow on a road designed for 200 kmh +.
Germany is probably going to impose speed limits on the remaining unlimited sections of autobahn where proper fast means/meant acceleration from 100mph.
Combined with an even stricter speed regime off the motorways.
Really all makes speed moot.A good luxury van conversion makes more sense in that environment to make the extra journey times and stops during long distance touring more comfortable.
Look on the bright side it will decimate French peage revenues for their operators and customers for over priced MSAs.No upsides to using over regulated motorways in a cramped faux quick saloon.
A 6.3 V8 AMG or 7.3 V12 Brabus a Tesla ain’t and the roads to use it have gone even if it was.
It’s now all about how comfortable it is to do a long trip at 50-60 mph average not how quick it can brake from 150 mph + to 50- 80 mph and accelerate back to 150 mph +.
Bearing in mind that silly speeds on a go kart track have no connection to proper GT motoring.

Great will my 500 hp 3.5t Transit conversion count. I’ll only put the leather recliners and 48 inch wide screen and windows in it and ditch the Amazon job after I’ve banked the cash.

Yep.
Do all my distance/daily driving in a van, now.
Save the car for b Road blasting.
No need to break the speed limit,to enjoy these roads.Just need the right car.

New cars will come with 5G & GPS where the car will talk to the V2X street furniture, traffic lights etc, They can Geo-fence whole grid areas or individual streets, roads to stop the vehicle going over the speed limit & speeding. Ford are already trialing this technology for their transit BEV vans.

Hey nice one, Glad it went well, good result on the KIA too. Pity the lead times are 6 months though, Lots of people complaining about that. My MG ZS EV is the excite model, It’s still got more tech stuff than I’ll ever use.

Thanks the demo was the exec model and I don’t need heated electric leather seats or key less entry or climate control on a car I drive mostly at weekends
Bit annoyed you can’t get a proper spare hey ho
At least the excite is similar spec to the Kia

Good luck but I do struggle with £30,000 for a normal run of the mill car , my mrs car was 15,995 and I said then I’d not pay more , times have changed as bloke was stunned when I said I’d pay cash for it ( less value of old car )
Not long ago you could get a reasonable house for £30, 000
