Short term in Canada?

If we can get waiting time from customers it is passed onto me directly. If we can’t thats tough but i can live with that. I have had as much as $200.00 before for a days waiting but many times i get a lot less or even none unless i am waiting for 24 hours then i get a small layover payment.
We often work for Maple leaf and it can take a few hours to get loaded but they will pay nothing because most of reefer companies in Manitoba compete hard to get freight from them so they take the attitude that they don’t need to. The guys who i have spoken to from other companies always seem to be on a similar basis to me except perhaps my milage pay is higher than most and also paid off my odometer.

Ok maybe I am missing something and I am sure you will put me right if I am but here is how I see your job.
You regularly sit for a couple of days at a time for a “small layover payment”, often takes hours (often half a day min) to load/unload that you don’t know if you will get paid for or not (very seldom I would think), run most trips ilegally because the customer that kept you waiting still wants the load there on time, run the back roads to avoid the scales and because you cant use toll roads and take short cuts away from the interstate system that reduce your miles driven (even though you get paid hub miles) and take longer :unamused:
No wonder your boss treats you with respect

Surely if the wage packet contains enough $$$ to keep the driver happy and the driver is happy in his work, it doesn’t matter a jot how those wages are calculated, be it miles on the hub, miles on the map, miles on a list, time working, time sitting, time wasteing, whatever. If you enjoy the job itself and you get paid enough then all is good.

Maybe if you bothered to read previous posts you will see that wire has already stated I thank you for your concern but I am extremely happy with my working conditions. In fact I most probably relish my job more than anyone else on this whole forum. and I replied What makes one man happy wont cut it with others and one mans wage is pocket change for another but that was not the discussion
so do try and keep up :unamused:

Just read through the whole 7 pages of this thread, before nodding off for 20mins. for the most part its a lot of mindless drivel, really. In 1 corner we have the " Biggest Loser’ in Canadain trucking history trying to preach to us that we should all return to the UK as a protest to a few bad employers :unamused: Then we have others pontificating on how great we all are that have survived the first few years, and that the natural selection method of survival of the trucking industry helps weed out the " weak and not so good immigrants"
Lets face it trying to live any where on this planet aint easy in these economicaly challenged times, here its a tad harder coz its soooooooooo frickin cold. This industry that we are all love to hate has all ways had bad blood coursing through its vains,we will never get the recognition we deserve, we will never get the wages we earn, we will allways feel picked upon by dispatchers and managment, we will allways be disrespected by shippers and receivers, we will allways be under the scruitiny of the law. Its the job we have chosen, live by the code of the driver, and just ■■■■■ at every thing coz thats what we do.

Oh and who is Robbie ■■

You feeling better then

You have to read his posts, Robbiee is kinda sorta hard to explain, not sure if the institute is allowing him near computers right now.
