Jon ,also look on the SOFA page on Facebook ,you will see a lot of familiar faces there.

Come on nigel i am sure you can help Jon out with this one.

.

Yes, I can Geoff, I have referred him to the ex-GBE Facebook page also .Seeing Hotel Magnums post about Ray driving for Interoute I am surprised there is no mention here of Eddie Rodgers and George Eames ( whole weeks menu down his shirt !! ), and they also had a Portuguese driver who I think was called Lopez.

hey kerbut, I’m having problems finding the be Facebook page, whats it called?

Les ,
Yes I had a problem finding it to start with ,got bed manufactures sites etc , try typing SOFA in capitals and it should bring it up ,if not Geoff might be able to send you a link to it,Edit to add ,having re read it if its the GBE page on Facebook its ex-GBE.

The truck on the right of Phills E.R.F. is a Fransen daf might have been driven by Peter Dyke.

Cliff luxton:
That looks like Ketty in Phils E.R.F in the second photo behind the Volvo. R&G trailer I reckon.

Definately R&G Trailer, RGM-004

Hello Dennis

Yes there were some good lads about in those days !
Some of the first chaps I remember clearing through customs on a regular basis were
Mr Luxton on Axminster loaded with cheese normally
Selwyn Williams owner driver ,Ralph Davies,Raymund Brown (Maggot) used to be loaded with
French apples or wine in a Peter Gilder drawbar always over length ! and over weight ! :unamused:

The old Truckline office used to stink of those really strong Spanish cigarettes in the lounge bit
where you could get a coffee,i mean it really hung in the air even if you had all the windows open.
Funny what you remember !

Just looking at the Truckline brochure again the maintenance staff stood infront of the Framptons
Daf look a right motley crew, look like they are getting ready to do a smash and grab raid !

Well there is a name from my past Bernie Thompson, when I knew him twas in 1973 and he was driving a LHD Berliet one of four operated by PBC European transport, I drove a AEC mandator for the same outfit which was run by Franky Allen who lives only half a mile from me today. He came down to Toulous tractor only as my motor had water works problems and in those days it was cheaper to bring the failed motor back to Blighty to get it fixed. Bernie was courting Marie at this time and we tipped the load of sheepskins I had on board on the Friday in Mazamet and back to Toulous to stick the old Mandator on the ■■■ of the trailer, this to strip down as little as possible, he wanted to be back in Cherbourg for Saturday night for a date with Marie but was knackered as had driven through the night Thursday to get to me. Of course I had done little for the last three days and he said have you ever driven a LHD, well I had not but after half an hour of intense training Bernie was on the bunk and sound asleep waking when we where three hours north of Bordeaux.
Later I believe Marie worked for Sealink in Cherbourg as did several other very nice looking girls and as we used that service a lot in the nineties they did come over one Christmas on a visit but I have not seen Bernie since his mission to rescue me. Does any one know if they are still about regards John Davies aka Buzzer.

John, last I heard of Bernie Thompson was from a n ex Atkins Cherbourg driver called michel on a thread on truck net might even be f b Atkins thread . He said Bernie was running some dustcarts in or near Cherbourg. If I find the thred i,ll let you know as you would say a mary Hopkins moment there was some good photos on there as well cheers denis
