DEANB:
Can you remember this company Geoff ? They use to come from Penzance and ship a lorry load of
fish out every night to Cherbourg. Drivers from memory were Peter and Paddy.5

Now your talking, shellfish used to have about 15 trucks go out on a Tuesday morning for Spain
with the live tanks of shellfish.
Irureta have been going for ever still see there motors about.
geoff luther:
Bet the sign writer did well out of that firm, Buzzer.
geoff luther:
Not too sure if Andrew Wishart are still going as have not seen one of their motors for years ?
Shame as always very smart motors, but like alot of the companies mentioned over these pages
probably another now finished.
Another company now gone.
Got some memories of E C Transport. Not only low loaders but also the “Dangerous Brothers” with their own brand of hazardous goods! Can`t see those loads going far on a passenger ferry nowadays.
One of EC drivers showed me his paper work one day when shipping out, he was carrying missiles (not armed) and it stated they were electric motors, maybe that was to put off any inspection of the goods, Buzzer.
shame but wisharts been gone 4 a few yrs now
Hi, Buzzer. One trip the Brothers said they had live ammo on for Italy. Apparently all the countries they went to had rules stating containers fork lift blades etc had to be bronze alloy to stop sparks. Except Italy where containers blades etc MUST be steel ! Dunno how they squared that circle.
When doing Spain we did a few “special” loads from near, I think, Huelva back to the UK. They were concrete bombs! Same size shape weight etc as the real thing, for use by RAF on target ranges. We had certs from Spanish authorities explaining they were Non Haz. Did get an inspection from Douane in Cherbourg… Officer and myself in back of trailer, daring each other to kick them… just to make sure…

Wisharts are no more so I hear, its a shame as it is for Rycrofts, but I still meet up with some of his drivers regularly though for a meal and chin wag.I can still picture Ian Rycroft in Poole docks on a Sunday night finding out where every driver was bound for.Happy days looking back on them.Cheers Dean

Hi Geoff. I do keep promising myself Ill come to the Portuguese reunion one year. I
m still full time on the road, and really need to get my priorities sorted out I know, but soon, soon.
Looking at Deans pics of Ralphie
s black Scannies reminds me of (another) Roy Smith comment:
A bunch of us were in Cherbourg about to head south, when one suggests
“Were all light loaded so let
s get going before those R. Davies get on the road. We dont wanna get held up." Roy, "No rush, we
ve got at least 15mins start on em. It
ll take `em that long to charge their lights up”.
I dunno how that story comes over on the page, but Roy always had us in stitches.
Just see a bit of boat past Teddy Bear`s cab. Looks like Spain somewhere??
Last time I saw Teddy Bear (several years back) he was living in Spain with a Russian girl who was working there.
