hotel magnum:
we came back through the tunnels, always turning down the return ticket at the peage. we complained about the black truck and black uniform in the heat, the boss fixed it by sending us to Sweden.
So Hotel Magnum was it for the better or not,I bet the black never kept the cold out.
I remember when Graham had his own Volvo pulling for RH&D ( he previously worked for them in the warehouse ) , didnt he end up with Pat on Bourne Steel ?

Nigel Pat says that Graham did not work with him at Bourne steel. That was a long time ago when he was pulling for RH & D Cheers Geoff
yes geof the long way round was very scenic, and we sometimes got weekended. so we tried to either make it in the services north of cannes and walk down to the sea or at casalbordino knowing the unit had to stay with the truck and the hotel was just up the road from the beach plus we were loaned an old van to get about with, and as for Sweden a black truck and uniform were no better. really good food on the ferries but sometimes blighted by the caravan buying fraternity whose women would raid the food overnight but not be seen during the day. and of course the men who would fight among themselves once drunk. saw a couple of good mishaps with their pride and joy getting off the ferry though.

Well hotel magnum you could have been weekended in far worse places than those. As for the caravaning mishaps I bet you had a good laugh at their expense.Cheers Geoff
Any guesses to where the R & G motor was parked, it looks like the river Douro in the backround, so Shady could have been on the outskirts of Porto or near Braganza or Guimaraes for groupage tips or loading ?
To save the toll, between Lisbon and Porto, I would take the dreaded national one free road, it was more like a Formulae one race track, from 30 year old vans and trucks to horse and carts,it would take forever to get there, ok if not in a hurry.
Some decent restaurants on the national roads.

“toby1234abc” you are right it was on the N1 near Coimbra I think, and yes there were some decent restaurants on the national roads. When we first went to Portugal the national road was the only option as the Peage didn’t go far out of Lisbon.Nowadays there are motorways everywhere but it was more fun years ago down there.Cheers Geoff
