SHIPLY

Now Now girls settle down, I know insurance is an exciting subject so for some hard facts on my experience.
When I was shopping around for courior insurance the best deal I could get for my Lt 35 was through Swinton, insurance underwritten by LV Liverpool and Victoria , was about £1200, which included £5000 of GIT insurance. For parcels this I thought wasn’t too bad, But I needed a motor traders policy with £50,000 worth of GIT insurance and that was only £25000 for each car if 2 carried or £50,000 for 1 car. This again with LV cost just under £2000 which if it had worked out, wouldn’t have been too bad if earning a living. Oh by the way am 56 with maximum no claims which was mirrored on this M/Traders policy. In the past as an O/ driver with 3 trucks I was paying less insurance for each 38 ton truck.

Well well well, step up to the plate, ■■■■ well put something on the end of it.

Ok, your turn to play the Jeremy Kyle bingo game

If you insist. Bigvern your a reckless cowboy that endangers parcels lives

Yes, and stuck in the middle, are innocent parcels who didn’t ask to be brought into this.

Think of the PARCELS!

I am on the side of the cheap courier, as a regular sender of cheap tat through the post, I would welcome a cheaper way as would most ebayers.

To be fair most people sell stuff on ebay because they are too ashamed to advertise it on Freecycle in their own area

Here’s another one who has no clue but points the accusation finger! I didn’t say i had made a profit on my 1st outting did I? I said it was keeping my head above water. Now I could have done 2 more to make it MORE worth my while. It was my 1st outing.
Now…Not that I HAVE to reveal all. I will tell you doubters this. I don’t spend all of my time on this site. I have been putting bids in,and winning. I have more than enough work this week to make it pay. So get off yer’ high horses, and instead of whinging about what I do…Get on with what you do. Simple.

Well said.

Or Gumtree and Cheapcycle.

Anyway, as I see it, Mr V hasn’t given anyone cause to think he may be under-insured or even ‘dodgy’ so why all the finger pointing and accusations? :frowning:

To be honest and to throw a beagle in the kitchen having seen and worked on parcels, insurance or no insurance I’d rather give my parcel to a man in a car than entrust it to a parcel company that’ll just throw it around the place till it maybe gets to its destination. Or destroyed.

if someone wants to get off there arse, and make some extra money, whether that’s sticking some boxes in the boot, or putting an extra pallet on the bosses trailer, then i say crack on. it may turn into a decent business.
nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Exactly, do it till caught is a good motto … :sunglasses:

Slightly off topic, but when I worked at United Carriers, a very good client and someone I had made friends with through daily contact, asked me to take some Office Furniture to Goole. He said it was urgent so it couldn’t go by the normal service so I did it for him. I think I got about a tenner or maybe 15 quid.

However when driving into the customer in Goole, who did I meet but my depot manager driving out. I thought it was a mean set up and I unloaded the furniture and drove back to my own depot, expecting to get the sack.

As I drove in my manager was just coming out of his office smiling, he walked up and said. How much extra did you make today, and are you empty?

I coloured up and told him I was but I hadn’t been paid yet, he laughed and said charge them plenty then. He then told me, “I did a full load of tea chests when I was driving and couldn’t get tipped until the next day,” just a warning for you in case the area manager ever catches you out. :stuck_out_tongue: He did me.

Sorry if im missing sompthing but im sure when i have tried i have been able to add goods in transit/ buisness use to my car insrance policy for around £50 a year, not sure if that provides any cover for the actal goods, but it provides the 3rd party cover for driving

There is a world of difference in price of insurance when the word business is thrown into the mix.Piles of tat will be suddenly of great value when they go missing or get broken.

There are dozens of companies on the web offering courier insurance and 50k on GIT is a pot of pennies

That insurance still does not cover you for hire and reward use, which means if you do work off shiply you are not insured. Read the small print, it will almost certainly say “not for hire or reward” or words to that effect.

The insurance you are talking about is to allow you to use the vehicle in connection with your work. For example when I used to work in IT I would often drive from one of my employer’s sites to another with several servers worth several thousand pounds each in the boot. For this I required business use insurance by law and if I wanted the servers to be insured I would have needed GIT insurance too.

This is a common misconception, as I said in my post earlier, and is why many/most of the legitimate properly insured couriers who have spent literally thousands of pounds on correct insurance get a bee in their bonnet when people start undercutting them using their cars which are not insured for the job.
